My take on why Lucifer hasn't, and maybe can't, say "I love you" back to Chloe. Lucifer is a person (or, in this case, angel) that commitment doesn't come easily to. Remember when he wouldn't call himself Eve's boyfriend in Season 4? It's the same thing here, though it's much, much deeper. It's not that he isn't committed to Chloe, he is. That's been shown multiple times throughout the past 4 and a half seasons. He is wholeheartedly committed to her. He's willing to go back to Hell, the place he hates more than anything in the universe, to protect her. He's willing to rule the demons and keep them in check if it means Chloe is safe. He's willing to stay there and trust that she can take care of herself even though he really, really wants to go back to her. For Lucifer, "I love you" is, in his words, complicated. It's because he's spent so long feeling unloved. By God, by Michael, by humanity, even by himself. He doesn't know what it's like to be loved for who he is. But as Amenadiel said, Chloe is the only mortal who sees him for who he truly is. She sees an angel, not a devil. She sees kindness, not malice. She sees good, not evil. That's so foreign to Lucifer. Being vulnerable is foreign to him. "I love you" is vulnerability at its highest. It means surrendering yourself completely to another person. I'm surprised that Chloe hasn't picked up that Lucifer calling her by her real name and not "Detective" is pretty much the same as "I love you" for him. And if he's anything like Mazikeen, he shows his affection through actions more than words.

All this waiting for them to finally sleep together and they gave us just one scene out of 8 episodes 😔, I hope that there will be at least two more in the second part of this season, and I also hope that Lucifer tells Chloe that he loves her and they finally begin their relationship, cause I'm tired of waiting 😔 After everything they have been through they deserve to be happy with each other without problems like in the previous seasons. @@natalieelaina5846 I know but the writers have always created unnecessary problems when they were close to telling each other how they really felt, and now they created this nonsense problem that Lucifer "hasn't" confessed his love for Chloe, while he has always wanted to and he even told her that she was his first love. Only because he haven't said the exact words "I love you" doesn't mean he doesn't love her, but that's what writers tried to imply this first half of the season and with that confusing Chloe, I just don't want this kind of confusion anymore cause they always do that to Lucifer and Chloe, let them be happy for God's sake.

I think he just can't do his mojo in front of her anymore, the same way he used to be unkillable when he's not around her. Because now she has power over him when he's next to her, this is him self-actualizing. But at the same time, after he had really let her in, he stopped being so afraid of being vulnerable. I think he became that much stronger, they became that much stronger together, and this is where his newfound invulnerability came from. As in, before his vulnerability next to her was a way for him to signal himself to stay away from her, out of fear. And now that he lowered his defenses and isn't afraid anymore, his invulnerability next to her is all the more reason for him to keep her close.

I've never had really serious relationships so I can't understand one thing... Does that really happen in real life that someone can get offended by its partner when he or she doesn't say "I love you"? Does that really matter? I mean, Lucifer never lied to Chloe, saved her life for multiple times, he is immortal but he literally died TWICE and went to hell not as a devil but as a human only to protect her. When Lucifer realised his feelings for Chloe, he always tried to be there for her, to help her. And then she asks him to say these three words... Seriously? All of this wasn't enough? I'm sure, Dan told her these words, when they got married, Pierce also did it when asked her to marry him... And they both lied to her and then betrayed her. It seems like she hasn't learnt anything. It really pisses me off when someone thinks that words matter more than actions. I hope, Chloe will be conscious this time, and won't push Lucifer away because of such stupid reason.
