For those who never understood the possible hidden plot in the movies : There's also the insinuation from the beginning of the movie that Thomas Daggot is actually an Angel who reincarnated as a human soul. Specifically I think he was one of Lucifer's but because God showed him mercy for whatever reason, he was made human instead. Which is why he got those scary visions in the beginning of the movie of the Rebel Angels cast out of Heaven. Gabriel seems to know who he is and says the birth mark on Daggot's lips was a mark he put on him (maybe before casting him out). And Lucifer when meeting him in his second scene tells him that he was fond of his prayers especially the ones asking for Protection from the Devil who he thought was under his bed. Satan replies that he really was under there. That's why he wants more than anything for Tommy to return. That's why Satan loved Tommy. Because from his own twisted point of view, his Fallen Angels are like his children. His flock, and he's their Shepard. Now I have debated with other fans of this series before. And some said "Yeah but Gabriel puts that mark on human babies to hush them," I have done research and that’s not true. The Angel that puts those marks on babies is a female Angel named Laylah. And even if the argument was true, there's just too much to imply Daggot is a Fallen Reborn. Remember that even Gabriel when he fell, became a human. So it's not unheard of. There's apparently a precedence to this. When it's an Angel who is super loved or important like Gabriel, they get rebirth as a human rather than Hell. Why else would Satan be so desperate to offer Daggot a place in Hell? Telling him he loves him more than Jesus. Would he really do that for a regular Angel or even a mere human? The school teacher I think he just assumed he could use to manipulate Daggot. And Mary the little girl was later revealed to be a powerful Shaman in the next movie or the movie after that. So there is a reason to recruit her at least. But why Thomas Daggot? Why are Satan and the other Angels so interested in him? Why the familiarity they have with him as if they had known him for a long time? Final thoughts In the second scene with Viggo Mortenson, when Viggo sneaked up in Thomas and was scaring him, he was also teaching Daggot a lesson in Angels. He told him the worst thing for an Angel is to lose faith and have God’s word taken from him. And then he says, “And what would happen if his faith was tested, and that Angel,” Here he whispers, “Just like you, didn’t understand? That’s your weapon. Use it. Use it!” So he’s basically flat out said that he is an Angel fallen from grace. Simply he’s been a man for so long across who knows how many life times that he has forgotten who he really is. But that’s why he is drawn to holiness which is why he originally studied to be a Priest. And then did become a Priest until he died in the third movie. So this really isn’t even a theory anymore. Lucifer confirms this with his lesson to Thomas Daggot. Thomas was apparently what he was called in Heaven before being reborn. That’s why they usually refer to him as Thomas or Tommy and rarely if ever use his last name. To them, the last name is irrelevant. He is the Angel Thomas. The name Thomas is derived from the Hebrew word תאום ( ta'om), meaning "twin." This fits the character well. Because he is a human but he also has a semi angelic side. A part of him that will always be an Angel, which is where he gets his visions and divine instincts from. He seems to be well versed in Angels even writing a treatise on them when he was a student of the Priesthood. A treatise so exact that the Angel Simon is impressed with how accurate it is. Thomas has a twin soul which means he has the ability to tap into his divine nature for inspiration from God. But also, his human nature to understand emotions the way humans do. So in effect he is the perfect melding of both worlds. His human experiences make him stronger.

I seem to recall brief talk of a potential crossover with Dracula 2000 franchise. I can't find anything about that online, but being a writer myself who has had some contact with those in the industry (and those who know them) I can confirm that the idea for a crossover was discussed even if it never made the news of the day. It would have worked too since both franchises take their biblical backstories seriously. They were also owned by the same studio & what really stuck out to me was how actors Jason London & Jason Scott Lee ended up starring in the later Prophecy sequels after they had already shot the second & third Dracula 2000 films. This may be the closest we have to evidence that both actors were signed on for the crossover that never happened.
