Well done, Maestro Lucio Maurino, the most perfect methodology, I have ever never seen before! Yet, let lme call to your attention two different interpretations of Yoko geri Ke komi, a) from Kosa dachi, when the rear leg is stepping in front of the front leg , here the first stage is close to the mawashi geri, you have pointed out, b)whereas the Yoko geri kicked after steppind behind the standing front leg, Kake -dachi, is more about an ushiro geri kicked to the side, with more effort in maintaining theleine of the kicking heel and the longitudinal axis of the kicking leg. Is that so, orjust misinterpretation? ? With all respects, Paul, 67, retired instructor of Karate.

He is from Shotokan, but has a wide knowledge in a number of different styles and disciplines (including Aikido). In particular, I believe that the principles explained in this video are largely derived from his University studies in Sports Science.

All the traditionalists out there saying this is not the "right" way to do it etc. should ask themselves one basic question once and for all: "Has humanity ever achieved anything by sticking to fixed and rigid rules?" It's called evolution. Big respect to the Japanese masters for inventing Karate, but does that mean we should religiously ape every tiny move they do? By the way, why do you think there are so many styles of Karate? Because every sensei wanted to do it HIS way. Why shouldn't the masters of today not do it THEIR way?

I don't understand why is yoko geri kekomi in Gankaku. All the Japanese schools (where shotokan is coming from and they invented that kata) are doing Yoko Geri Keage in Gankaku. It isn't right just to change the kata because you want to.
@AlessandroTimmi10 жыл бұрын
Hi Anubite. The reason for this change is that they want to make the kata more difficult, in order to be rewarded during competitions. It is sports Karate in the end, not traditional. I don't think it is a big deal as long as you KNOW that you are changing the original kata. And they (Maurino, Valdesi, Figuccio) stress this concept during every seminar they give.
@Nokamafication10 жыл бұрын
Alessandro Timmi You're talking shit mate. Kata is what it is, and to change it for a "reward" is not karate. It is a big deal, and you're an idiot not to recognise that.
@AlessandroTimmi10 жыл бұрын
Shrike343 I feel sorry for you, but if you don't understand the difference between "Karate" and "Sports Karate", this is your limit man, not mine. And you are wasting your time watching and commenting videos that you don't like (read "understand").
@anubitebv10 жыл бұрын
Alessandro Timmi By making yoko geri kekomi, doesn't make the kata more difficult. It's just another technique that has another purpose. Even if you are doing sports karate, you should respect the way that kata is done. By changing it to look fancier (which it doesn't), you're not showing any respect. Lucio Maurino is a great teacher, he really knows how the body works in karate but I don't like the way he practices karate, just because of the reasons I said earlier :)
@seilaoquemvc210 жыл бұрын
Alessandro Timmi and the judges are to blame.... making it "harder" while making it "wrong" should not net you more points in "Sports Karate" sure, replacing yoko geri keage to kekomi so you keep your leg in the air longer is impressive and looks fancier, and it's even harder from the acrobatics standpoint. What I question here is the way judgment is passed on athletes.... making the kata harder shouldn't matter, making it perfectly right should. Either way, it's not Maurino's, Valdesi's or Figucio's fault that judges give wins for people that do the kata "wrong" they just adapt to the rules and win tournaments and that's perfectly fine. I'll just stick to traditional Karate... no shortcuts on moves for increased speed, no replacement of moves to make katas harder and be happy with it. Unfortunately this means I'll probably never win a tournament on a big stage :) But that's fine, because I really don't agree with this kind of practice getting extra points.

@paulcalugar14383 жыл бұрын
He’s not doing a keage… he dojng a kekomi … because he back foot turns outward .. his hips are rotating which is effect a thrust kick not a snap kick… Great agility but he isn’t doing a snap kick
@Nokamafication10 жыл бұрын
Does he realise that he is suppose to be doing yoko geri keage and not kekomi? He's teaching shit.
@AlessandroTimmi10 жыл бұрын
Yes he does. As per my previous comments, he perfectly realizes (and explains) this. This modification has been implemented in order to achieve higher evaluation during competitions. This is sports Karate after all!
@sassuki9 жыл бұрын
+Alessandro Timmi Higher evaluation? You mean lower I hope? Mastering Keage is more difficult than mastering Kekomi!! And there is no such thing as "sports karate". There is only one Karate. There are only people doing it seriously, and other people just for show -.-
@ponnarajashekhar7606 жыл бұрын
original kick or technique can be substituted but original basics cant be changed, like you turn on toes to do a kick and not on heels your basics are wrong.
