I love that you put the crew in the background! So many animatics make it seem like Odysseus and Eurylochus are alone, when the whole point was that Eurylochus was discrediting Odysseus in front of the crew. Love it!

I was just thinking the same thing! It's THE most important part and the reason the second part hits so hard, and it sets up the betrayal of the next song!

His hand on his swords when he's "talking in private" with him is such a nice detail and ties to Thunderbringer so well, the implied threat, he doesn't want to hurt him but he will make impossible choices if he must so he's basically asking Eurylochus to keep that in mind.

This is amazing! The fact that its mostly animated is impressive and I applaud your skill and effort! I like how you interpret Odysseus talking to his men about the fact that he did bring back 600 men from war alive, because he did! Then his talk with Eurylochus! *chef kiss* Because Odysseus is still a king and he has power, even if they're brother in arms. He can't lose the trust of his subjects so he is stern and a little commanding. Ugh! This so good! Keep it up!

I was already excited when Jen came out with theirs for this song a bit ago but now we have one that's almost fully animated too? The community is eating well thanks to you. Great job. It's interesting to see an almost threatening take on Odysseus at the end of the song too.
@ditoob4 ай бұрын
Awww thank you so much for this! The threatening Odysseus came from a passage in the Odyssey where, right after Eurylochus returns from Circe’s palace, Odysseus considers killing him on the spot! Thank you so so so so so much!

@@ditoob I love that! That's such a cool reference to have. I remember being fully onboard with him doing that at that point. Eurylochus in Epic is so far a lot more likeable than the one in the Odyssey, though I wonder how much inspiration Jorge is going to take from the Odyssey for how he'll be in act 2.

Ahhhh! Another one! Let's keep it coming!😆 Love that you and the others who animated this had different portrayals on Odysseus and Eurylicus' private talk, it's like looking at different angles of it. Btw, is it already canon that Odysseus is the shortest of them all?😅
@ditoob4 ай бұрын
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I supposse he is a short king!!!
@Dawn_the_dragon4 ай бұрын
Odysseus being short is kinda a running joke in the epic fandom. Everyone animates him as shorter than everyone else anyway . Also, in the original odyssey by Homer, odyssey is described as shorter than than one of the shortest crew members. Jay in real life is also shorter than everyone else in the epic cast. So i guess you could say it’s cannon. It’s more like half cannon, half fannon and completely hilarious.
@ditoob4 ай бұрын
Definitely canon hahaha, in the Iliad Priam is shocked at how short Odysseus is HAHAHA
@Skeepers_4 ай бұрын
Odysseus being short is a running thing in Epic because the creator and the guy who sings Odysseus is shorter than the rest of the cast 😂

nice animation but there werent any black men in greece back then the year was 1600ish b.c
@ditoob4 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! While Eurylochus is depicted as black in this animation due to his actor, Armando Julian, being dark skinned, black people were found in ancient greece during the period the Odyssey/Iliad was taking place. Homer explicitly mentions the Ethiopians in his epics if I am not mistaken.
@kingbeans69474 ай бұрын
@@ditoob yeah i mean people that lived in greece also thx for repliying
@ditoob4 ай бұрын
As for people who lived in Greece or at least were present at the time there is Memnon and his Ethiopians I believe who served in the Trojan War! Additionally, the Minoan Civilization of Crete had extensive trade with the Egyptians and other Africans, leading to some Greeks moving to Egypt or other parts of Africa and vice versa as early as Mycenean Greece (1700 b.C. I believe)

And even if there weren’t any black men in Greece it’s an artistic liberty. A lot of small details in epic aren’t entirely accurate and they don’t need to be. This is jays retelling and should not be considered the exact same as the original odyssey. Considering that eurlochus voice actor is darker skin it makes sense that he is animated as such. It is an agreed upon design in the epic community. I understand the desire for accuracy, but as this is a modern piece of art and an interpretation artistic liberties have been taken and that is expected and ok. I also did not no the Greeks had contact with African Americans, probably gonna look that up seems interesting.
