How to get started in Artstudio Pro

Hey, guys. Today we are kicking off the first video of our new tutorial series for beginners. In today’s video you will learn some of the important fundamental knowledge and workflows in order to get started in Artstudio Pro. We will talk about many important things like preferences, the toolbar, the layers panel, starting a canvas, saving files, exporting files, and a lot more. If you are just getting started working in the software this video should help you speed up your process.

This is a welcome tutorial concidering how few and far between you guys produce tutorials compared to other software products. It seems an age since Claudio promised a lot of tutorials when he took over as creative director. I think you have an amazing product but you do it an injustice by not producing enough video content to inform and promote your customer base. You need courses with cool subject themes like Movie Posters, Portrait and Landscape Painting, Illustration, Photo retouching etc.

Totally agree. Reason why procreate is so popular is cuz they provide daily mini tutorials and have a handbook for their app. Their social media is always active.

Lots coming just like that. My partner wanted to start with this, but we have all kinds of in depth stuff coming and in the pipeline. Eventually the channel will be filled with all new videos from this series. We are in the process of producing everything now. This is the first one.

I have been working on Photoshop from last five years and was never happy with the Wet brushes. So I tried other software like Sai painting tool. But the Artstudio Pto is a perfect combination of Photoshop and Sai blending engines. It provides lots of custom options. This is my favourite app for the IPad and they are regularly updating app as well.

The video that I’ve asked you to make since last year is finally here. I’ve only gotten 12 minutes through this thing and I’ve already learned stuff about this app that I should’ve been able to pick up in the first week of downloading. Why has it taken me this long to figure out what the move tool is? Why did I not know about using gestures on the UI to control size and opacity? Because a cohesive English manual or tutorial has never been provided. Why am I only halfway through this vid? Because I’m actually trying everything out as I go along. Good job Cladio.

Thanks Lucky Clan. Been waiting for this series to begin. I hope you will dedicate a tutorial to an in-depth look at your brush engine and at least touch upon the different possible settings and possibly a method by which one can experiment changing the attributes. Not sure how to frame this request but I know that my use of Corel Painter is more successful because of my having taken courses from Skip Allen in the past specifically dealing with Painter's brush engine. Thanks. My request is because I see so much potential in your program and being a retired traditional illustrator (50 years) who would like to make the switch to digital and specifically to mobile digital, (iPad or tablet) your program with its brush engine tops my list of requirements to customize how I like to draw and paint.

You never explained the difference between paint and pencil! That was the main reason I watched this!!!

The only difference is Pencil generates hard-edge strokes, which is usful for pixel-art.

Very informative video...thanks. I have a question. I am left-handed. I have the pen and finger option turned on so that I can do the size/opacity trick you showed. I noticed that a few times the size of my pen reverted back to almost one pixel. After checking that I realized that it was my palm brushing on the size-slider at the bottom of the screen. In the future will it be possible to maybe move this set of tools to the top or side? Love the tutorial and I love the software. Thanks again.

Did you try to enable Left Hand Mode (Artstudio>Preferences>Interface)?

@@LuckyClan Yes I have Left-Hand Mode enabled. That only switches the color panels and the tool panels on the left and right sides. But the Size/Flow and Color/Brush icons on the bottom row remain the same. I will try to keep my left palm further to the left to try to avoid resetting the size to minimum. Hopefully, sometime in the future this can be looked at. Thanks so much for replying.

Every time I put my pencil down to draw, it works for a moment and then it stops and I don't know why I tried looking for just the pencil just using the pencil and the zooming out and zooming in gesture to see if it fix the problem but it still continued so I'm not sure what's wrong with Art Studio Pro

Hi, I am using artstudio pro as a beginner for drawing a siteplan. what i do is im using an A3 canvas with grids and rulers on the sides visible. I use a margin(Guideline) to leave guides on my house project and can't remove/adjust/move the guidelines after I applying them to my canvas. Please help me how to remove/adjust/move the guidelines after applying them.

I had a problem. I can't draw/erase on every layer in an in process file I am working on, I am not sure whether I locked anything or not. But when I open a new file, it works fine.

In the brush Editor minute 23:07 you choice a Real Pencil grouo of brushes but Art Studio dont have any Real Pencil group of brushes where did you take it? Thanks for this video tutorials very usefull

Dude I’m a dummy @8:20 “pretty simple move tool moves things around” not simple😫 In the 1st addition (I’ve had this app since the beginning) you could move with your fingers and even some how move and item up or down with a click. It’s been years since I have worked with your app and just even bought the pro today thinking it was going to be stellar, it’s not nearly as intuitive as it use to be. Needless to say I came here after a half hour of getting frustrated to relearn how to move items and you totally glossed over it.☹️ I really wanna like and learn to use the newest pro version, just some of us a complete newbies. Sorry for the rant.

Hello this helped me lots, thanks for that. I still have some beginners questions, how can I color fill a shape that I just drew? Ionly see the way to color fill the whole page. Another question if I draw a line or a circle it makes it as my pulse goes, Is there an option to make the line or circle more neat? like in procreate you just draw a line and hold the pencil and it makes the line better. Thanks for the video, and I hope someone can help me :)

To fill area in current layer use Bucket Fill tool (with Contiguous switch turned on). To draw perfect line / ellipse / rectangle tap More... button and set Drawing Mode to Line / Ellipse Rectange, or Freehand & Line to draw Lines in a similar way to procreate.

You can open "Share" option in Safari/Files/Photos, and choose "Artstudio Pro". Or in Artstudio you can tap File > New > New From Photos/File (but first photo must be saved in Photos/Files)

@@SeeYouOutsideShow You can just Undo it. Or paint erased area with Paint tool. Or use Bucket Fill tool.

This is a very difficult instructional video for anyone who is a beginner to such programs. It might have been an idea to start by explain and demonstrating the "tools". To me it seems as if you begin your instructions by assuming a person is familiar with such programs. Do you have any "BEGINNER" programs available?????
