Thank you! I studied in Italy and thought it was pronounced like this. But a friend (who lives in New Jersey with a huge Italian family) said it was pronounced like bru-shetta. I was so confused! She's Italian too and insisted it's Bru-shetta

Thanks for posting! One of my biggest pet peeves is when I go to an Italian restaurant and order Bruschetta and pronounce it correctly and the waitress "CORRECTS" me. I even had one lady tell me that REAL Italians pronounce it "BRU-SHETA"... Uh??? NOPE! Now I can keep this handy and show people how a real Italian pronounces this word. Oh, and don't get me started on the word Fagioli .... LOL

To probably no one's surprise, we pronounce it incorrectly in the U.S. Most people say "brushetta" with a soft "sh" sound instead of the hard "k" sound.

Thank goodness for the correct pronunciation of bruschetta. However, your pronunciation of tomato (tomato);is American and should properly be pronounced (tomato). Because Americans mispronounce and misspell many words, doesn’t mean it the correct way. So perhaps you can spread the word to your friends on how tomato should be pronounced.
