So happy to see they're finally realizing Christine would, unlikely, have her hair down all the time, especially during this time period. Love the new, varying styles! 😍

Not necessarily, this was Paris in the 1880’s during the Pre Raphaelite period, which lasted just about the entire second half of that century. So not only are we talking about general trends of that time, but Paris has almost always been the fashion capital of the world, and ahead of it’s time in any era, so it’s just as likely her hair would be half-down in those famous pre raphaelite curls, as it would be entirely up. Hair didn’t go back up for adult women on the regular again until the turn of the century, so in terms of accuracy, either would be fine.

I mean, if you really care about historical accuracy, would there really have been a black woman in an 1880s Paris theatre?
@ashareeoo2 жыл бұрын
@@ohwellwhateverr I should make it clear that I was more excited about new and varying wig styles for the character, and was less focused on historical accuracy. In the same vein, I'm thrilled that Christine is a diverse role now! It truly allows the best of the best to perform the role, regardless of colour, culture, you name it! 🥰

@@ohwellwhateverr Yes, there would have. Though rare, there were a few black first ladies in theatre at that time.

@@ohwellwhateverr If you don’t want to read that long essay or whatever, look into Sissieretta Jones (not sure if I spelled her name right), also known as “black betty”. She toured america and europe in the late 19th century.

@phanoftheopera2 жыл бұрын
I know that there’s a few clips that were taken of James, but nothing anywhere near this kind of quality. Though maybe a bit more unobstructed. But I wouldn’t post those clips, as the person who took them is on here and I don’t wanna make them mad. No one has taken any video of Lily yet; I hope someone does though cause she’s a phenomenal Carlotta!

It was always like that, even Sierra Boggess sings it like that in the 25th anniversary
@tearoses99402 жыл бұрын
@@amitmeir8109 Or at least, it’s been done at that tempo for awhile. In some older boots I’ve seen (from before 25th), it’s slower. It seems like sometimes it either depends on the actress or the orchestra (I know the last chorus of PONR has sped up a lot over the years, and I do like that they slowed it down now).

Why does she sing so fast?😮😬
@phanoftheopera Жыл бұрын
It seems to be the direction in London as of late, not necessarily a choice solely on Lucy’s part. All the Christine’s seem to do the same, pausing immediately after “and yet”. I don’t necessarily mind it, as I think the faster singing can speak to the anguish she’s going through. But I do enjoy a slower one, as they did originally. The show in London in general seems to sound faster.
