I've always found Bucky to be a very interesting character, especially his relationship with Steve. In the first movie, the first time you see him is when Steve gets into a fight, where he steps in. He's this rather, compared to Steve at the time, big guy. You almost get a feeling that Bucky follows Steve to make sure he's okay, and he's almost like a big brother to Steve. At Stark Expo, you see even more of the relationship when Steve and Bucky are fighting. Bucky is trying to convince Steve not to go and enlist, he's trying to protect him. Finally, Bucky gives up after a while. He knew that Steve wouldn't get in, and he goes with the girls. When Steve is at the military camp, you see him become weak when he finds out that the group of men he was speaking to was Bucky's. He knew that Bucky would've protected him, and he knows that something happened. He knew that he needed to save his friend. Now I'm skipping forward a bit, to when Bucky falls out of the train. Steve was overwhelmed with grief that he couldn't save his friend, and he truly thought that Bucky's death was his fault. Once again, skipping forward to when Steve finds out who the Winter Soldier is. As soon as Bucky's mask comes off, you can see a fleeting look of panic and what almost seemed to be sadness. Steve was confused, and sad. He had no idea that his friend was the Winter Soldier. Skipping to the bank vault. Bucky was remembering things, mostly things that had to deal with him becoming the Winter Soldier, but also a few things about Steve. When he says "But I knew him," He's remembered more than is acceptable. Pierce knows he can't have his weapon know it's target. So, he's wiped Going to the Helicarrier, Steve knows he has to stop Bucky, but he can't kill his friend. He can't kill the one person that was with him through his childhood. At the end of this part, you see Bucky panic when Steve says "I'm with ya till the end of the line." He remembers something. Something small, probably, but he's confused at this point. Confused about how Steve didn't kill him, didn't fight him. He knew that Steve could fight, he saw it himself just a little bit earlier. So why not now? When Steve falls, Bucky's still in a daze. The last thing Steve sees before everything goes dark is a hand, a metal hand, reaching out to grab him. Bucky drags Steve to shore, and then goes off to find out who he is. But guys when Bucky died, SHIELD didn't exist. So basically Peggy put Bucky's name there to honour him for Steve and being a part of the Howling Commandos ♡ no, im not crying!

The Howling Commandos were a part of the SSR wich later turned into shield. Peggy along with Howard and colonel Phillips were the ones who turned the SSR into shield. They then recruited hydra scientists, among them were Zola. They knew that he was high level in hydra, that he had tortured Bucky, and that Bucky had ‘died’ capturing him. Still they decided that he was trustworthy enough to free him and give him the rescources he needed to rebuild hydra, and find Bucky and torture him into the winter soldier. I am assuming that they all trew out their logic, morals and common sense out the window before making that descision. Howard and Zola were close enough to be on a first name basis in 1970, and Peggy was in charge at that point. It does make Howards death less sad. I mean Bucky was tortured by Zola then gave his life capturing him, then his former coworkers frees and hires Zola (wich enabled him to regrow hydra and torture Bucky into the winter soldier), and at least one of them became friendly with him. That is just a betrayel of Bucky and his sacrifice. Im not sure if he knows, but it would be something big Zola could taunt him with untill they started suppressing his memories. I would have been extremly hurt and pissed off. I wouldnt blame him if he held a grudge, but he is too busy victimblaming himself for what hydra used his body for without consent.

I always found Bucky intersting even before Winter Soldier was rumoured, he just seemed a very interesting side character, and one I thought was a little underrated in the first movie, but then when Winter soldier came about, I was more than thrilled. I cannot wait for the next movie, just to see more of him, and the interaction with Cap. Even with all the tributes and talk about him, I think he is still slightly underrated as a character. Sebastian Stan did an amazing job with the transformation between the two films. Lastly, this video is just pure perfection, the song maybe overused but it's just too perfect. Just amazing work from you, as always :)

Yes. They removed his memories, autonomy, agency and humanity. He was tortured brainwashed and abused for 70 years. Bucky is just as much of a victim as the peeople they used his body to kill. Blaming Bucky for what the winter soldier did is victimblaming. He deserves so much better!

Grant Ward was pretty high ranking Hydra operative/agent meaning he might have known about the Winter Soldier. He might have known that Bucky wasn't dead, and that a recognized S.H.I.E.L.D. agent was working for Hydra

I think Bucky as a person is less able to fight people he knows due to his past and his trouble being violent links to his past as winter soldier However the winter soldier has no remorse or link to these people so hurting/killing them is part of his mission. The winter soldier is a different part of Bucky and the two have to be talked about differently. Yeah they have the same fighting ability but it's more about the mental aspect when comparing his fighting ability and who would beat who cause there aren't many people the winter soldier wouldn't beat in hand to hand combat. But Bucky might be beaten. I think he does have some form of winter soldier PTSD which hasn't been talked about in any film (not properly anyway) and that also contributes to how he is as a character
