I have 5kW Solar on my roof and most of my driving is local. Would it be better (cheaper) for me to stick with 10A charging so I can use more of my solar because if I go for 7 or 11kW then I definitely won’t be able to take full advantage of my solar production?

Can you please help me to understand. I have one of those orange type 3 pin commercial power point at work which is where I wish to charge once a week. What charger can I buy that will simply plug in to it. I don’t want it hard wired just plug into the wall and not be as slow as the regular power point

You’d need a portable charger with a 3-pin tail which you can get from EVSE Australia: evse.com.au/product/portable-ev-charger-32amp/ | Code TESLATOM will get you 5% off store wide. The official advice I am able to give to viewers after consultation with firefighters is that the use of extension cords should be discouraged in conjunction with electric vehicles as it presents an increased risk of fire

Hi Tom, question from a n00b: What charging cable / adapator is needed to charge a Tesla at a non-Tesla DC charger? Many thanks!
@LudicrousFeed Жыл бұрын
You don’t need an adaptor to charge at a DC charger with a CCS2 plug, which in 2023 is basically 100% of locations. The only caveat is that some of the chargers have a ChaDeMo plug which cannot be used by a Tesla Model 3/Y in Australia and there is no readily available adaptor. There is however an CCS2/ChaDeMo adaptor for the Model S/X

Awesome, thanks Tom. For the portable type 2 to type 2 for destination AC charging do you need single or 3 phase please? Currently ordered an Atto3 but asking also in case I later buy a model Y. Cheers
@LudicrousFeed Жыл бұрын
For Atto3, a single phase cable is all that’s required but if you’d like to future proof it for vehicles you purchase one day that can utilise it, then it may be worth the extra money for a 3-phase cable

Order one card eg. Evie and enter the card ID into the various provider account settings in their respective apps ie. Chargefox, Jollt, Evie etc That way, you'll only ever have to carry one card to tap and go each time

Gret info Tom (as always :) How often have you used a standalone 'type2 to type 2' cable to connect to a cable-less charger? At A$250 approx. its an add-on I'd want to know there's a good chance I'm going to need it in the future before buying. Any other of you viewers had the need for one?
@LudicrousFeed Жыл бұрын
For me because I have ready access to home charging, I carry it for mainly as a backup and for incidental charging
@TerryDolphin Жыл бұрын
Most Australian Tesla owners will need one. The Australian Telsa super charger network is completely insufficient for the number of Teslas hitting the road and there are so few locations. I'm in Sydney's East and there are no convenient Telsla charging locations (i just checked - there's only 3 Supercharge locations in Sydney! Wow. That's terrible). We only have on street parking so can't charge at home (we do have a small place outside Sydney where we spend a few days a week and we have solar, with which we can charge the car, The idea being that we will charge it 70+% there) so we will need to use public charging infrastructure. And anyone driving a car a reasonable amount is going to find themselves needing a quick 22KW top up on a day of unexpected trips, so without any doubt in my mind, the first thing any new Tesla owner should buy is a type 2 cable. And Australian Tesla KZbinrs like our host should, in my opinion, make this clear, for noobs like me. I watched dozens of videos before taking delivery and no one mentioned the need to buy a type 2 cable.
@matthewtaylor335110 ай бұрын
I see charger cables as a necessary item. Much like carrying jumper leads, spare tyre, spare fuses and basic tools. Sure, you might kid yourself and presume your new car will never fail. Or be entitled and assume there should be chargers where you want them.
@WhiteEvo62 ай бұрын
Realise this is a year old this video but as a new Tesla owner the biggest issue is still the lack of Tesla chargers. Tesla really needs to lift its game in Australia, other countries have hundreds of chargers in much smaller regions. I have no interest in dealing with the app nightmare of the 3rd party chargers and being held to ransom by overpriced rates, Id rather stick with Superchargers and put the others out of business or they adapt and keep their charges A) working B) easier to access and C) charge rates that are fair.
@LudicrousFeed2 ай бұрын
As utopian as it would be to have public DC chargers with 100% uptime, I feel it would be unwise to entrust one brand with the responsibility of supplying the world’s EV charging requirement. No company should have a monopoly on this service as we’ve learned from the Tritium experience. What would make a much better experience for EV owners is if all third party DC chargers, Superchargers included, allowed for contactless credit card payment. That would make owning an EV so much easier regardless of make or model 🙏👍 As I discovered during my UK road trip in July: 2024 EV Road Trip UK in Hyundai Ioniq 5 Fast Charging Range Efficiency kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXKqmYV_htuqhJo
