about Styria: The Austrian lands (inner-Austria, Styria, Carinthia and the lands in Swabia) were split between the brother Friedrich the 3. and Albrecht the 2. When Friedrich died in 1330 Albrecht inherited everything. In 1335 Albrecht created the family-law, that Austrian lands cannot be split in the case of inheritance. As a Czech I LOVE that they really made Silesia this divded. There was like 50 principalities (there was a single administrative area that called itself just "lordship" despite them all being like 1 city and surrounding villages) and I am not even kidding. The thing I love the most is that they actually portrayed the last few Přemyslids ruling in Silesia. I am definitely going to do a "Přemyslovci back on the Bohemian throne" run. The gold mines and silver mines also sound like a good way to get filthy rich. The Czech/Moravian cultural difference is heavily debatable. Currently, there are only small groups of people who think we are not alike. We all intermixed so much that now we are almost inseparable. There is hardly a Czech/Moravian and even Slovak without some close ancestry from the other groups. In 1337 it was more diveded for sure, but real divides actually happened later. With Moravia being Catholic during Hussite Wars, electing Habsburgs hereditarily seperate from Bohemia (who confirmed their successions by vote). During the "revival" of Czech language, the difference in language was very apparent, with a lot of words being quite different (we could still understand each other) I understand the divide for balancing purposes tho. EU5 currently looks fire tho, and I absolutely love that the whole team takes it so seriously.

20:39 the deal with all those Saxons is the following. The Saxon Saxons stole the name from the lower saxons because the Emperor of the HRE in 1180, Emperor Barbarossa was upset at the Duke of Saxony (Modern Day Lower Saxony) Henry the Lion because Henry didn't help in a war. Then Henry was brought to court which he didn't show up for, so Barbarossa went full on mad and dismanteled the Duchy of Saxony and gave the title of Duchy of Saxony to some other guy and only arrived properly in modern day saxony in 1356. So I don't think those FAKE saxons should be called saxons at the beginning of the game. And the Anglo Saxon are quite simple. The REAL Saxons (Modern day Low Saxons) migrated to England. So as a Lower Saxon I think we should be able to reclaim the title of Saxony and form Saxony instead of those FAKE Saxons. Also the Low Saxon called the Language (Low Saxon / Low German) Saxon until like the 16th Century, so the culture of Saxon shouldn't be in modern day saxony and should replace lower saxon (at least at the start of the game) and what is Saxon on the current map should be called something else. I will not stand for this insult to the REAL Saxons.
@Saufs0ldat5 ай бұрын
I mean, pretty much all of northern and eastern Germany was considered "Saxon" in the early middle ages and the early dukes of saxony controlled most of it. After it splintered over times, everyone wanted to be duke of saxony and so the name spread around quite a bit. That's part of why we have three "saxon" states in modern day Germany and historically a bunch more. Also, you can't reclaim the name. It has too much baggage now. The mountain people ruined it with their accent.

The reason why a lot of cultures and places have some variation of "saxon" is that the Saxons got around a lot. They originally started in the area marked as Lower Saxon. Some of them then migrated to the island of Britain along with a tribe known as the Angles, thus forming the Anglo-Saxons. The rest stayed on the continent, with some of them now moving to the place we now know a Saxony. But there was still a lot of Saxons living in the lower Saxony area. And that's why so many places and cultures have Saxon in their name

thats not even true lol. Saxons never migrated to modern day saxony. It was just the title "duke of saxony" which was passed to the house of wettin who owned that area. But that happened in the 15th century. Saxon culture in eastern germany in 1337 is completely wrong and I hope they will fix it.

The area with Polabian majoirty is not Lubeck, Lubeck is south west of that. In game they call it Eutin which is Femern and parts of Holstein proper. This is somewhat accurate as Denmark fought against the Wends about 200 years before the start date and conquered pretty much all of the southern baltic coast around a 100 years before the games start point. A thing worth noting in the area they got wrong though is the danish-german cultural border, essentially they give it the modern cultural make up, Danish should be the dominant culture in all of Slesvig (well the province they call Slesvig in game), for some reason Flensborg and Slesvig are Holstein which they wouldn't be for 100s of more years. Flensborg not even by 1864.

It feels like they tried to mix different stuff from CK and Victoria into this EU5 or "Project Caesar" to bring some freshness into the EU series, things that never really existed in EU titles even with DLCs. The number of nations that we see here also shows they greatly upgraded their engine somehow (if they did not, it will be horrendous lol). I don't know if this will be good at launch, but at least they show signs that they want to try new things and give an identity to this game at launch, instead of just a graphics + map + UI update of the previous base game (and then wait for DLCs to catch up the quality of previous game)

Back when Bohemia was not a dumpsterfire, I am hyped to play my country - in 1337 it should have more potential than in 1444 when Austria is getting stronger. Two gold mines look juicy. As for king John being rich... well, he was a successful diplomat, his son got to be the HRE emperor after all, but he spent almost all his time outside of Bohemia (disgruntled with the demands of the local nobles and bored with administration) and he pawned off A LOT of crown possessions to spend on wars and diplomacy, so while the land is rich, the king was actually owing money to a lot of people - and it might be cool to see lower crown control or some modifiers for having pawned so many things with the option of getting them back (which is what Charles eventually managed).
@tomasr.4 ай бұрын
With EU4 mechanics, John of Bohemia would start with a large territory, but very low crownlands and made money just by granting privileges to the nobles, which would actually correspond to that he pledged royal estates and the magnates who gave him money then collected back it from the pledged estates). Technically John was rich, but he had a lot of spending so he can become rich and had to pawn everything and borrow some more.

His sucess as Emperor, and his Power, were one of the main reason, why only 9 years after his death in 1347 the member of the HRE pushed the "1356 Golden Bull" to restrict the central power of the Emperor, which resulated in the decline of the HRE from 1356+. As one proud thuringian i have to make the case that the saxonian culture should in fact be called thuringian. To my knowledge the settlers that partook in the ostsiedlung in todays saxonia came primarly from Thuringia. The two regions still share a close cultural and linguistic connection. The name saxonia came through feudal dynamics in which nobles from the actual saxonian "tribes" gained the overlordship over the area while in turn losing the control over their original lands. Afaik their is little to no evidence that there where a mayor movement of saxonian population down the elbe river. They remained in the north in modern low saxony. that being said i understand that thuringia is at start date far removed from any relevancy, while saxony would become a mayor player in germany during the games timeframe.
@aqvamarek53165 ай бұрын
The "von Wettin" didn't loose control over there orgin land. But it was simply so small, that they renamed themself "king of saxony" when they got the "modern saxony" area in there road into the east under control. And with August the strong, there "road to the east" eben added Poland to the mix. With a little bit more luck, there could be a saxony Poland.

In EU4 tecnically it is possible to achieve the treaty of whestphalia, turn orthodox, form russia and rule the HRE as an orthosox emperor in all sences (had a lot of fun with that), but there is only so much you can do to entertain youreself as historicaly the HRE is cathlic vs protestnt. More so i think it would be fun to have a path (for Russia or any other empire) to form a HRE type empire, or perhaps a mecanic opposite to the unification of the HRE.

Why some many Saxons? There is a fun fact about that. Saxons were the tribe that called themselves after a certain type of a knife. Just like the Orks in Total War Warhammer when their tribes call themselves like "bloody spearz" lmao. Those were the wild times. And anglo-saxons took this name from the knife obviously but the "anglo" part here is also about a weapon. There were fishing hooks that were called close to that word and those Germans also used even fighing hooks as a weapon to kill people. So old Germania is a wild Orc lands where people not only murder anybody for whatever reason (most of the world back then worked like that) but ALSO took pride in it. Its fascinating!

Reg. probably refers to Regenwalde (or in polish, Resko) which is a town. I don't know anything about how it was governed.
