This is the best drum review I've ever seen. Makes me want to really buy a Ludwig kit. Update: Two years later I now have this kit and it sounds and looks even better in person. Warm, punchy and beautiful are appropriate words to describe the kit. The fit and finish are flawless. These drums are too easy to tune and come with Remo heads. I recommend the Classic Maples to everyone- they're just great drums at a great price. They sound like drums are supposed to sound. You'll like the 24-in bass drum.

I can tell you about the radio frequency gluing method from a completely different application. I worked for Batesville Casket in Nashua NH for a number of years. We would often have a “blowout shell” . These were the actual box before the lids were attached. A large belt sander would level the top of the box as it passed though on the production line. If the end panels were a bit higher then spec, the belt sander would bite off too much causing the end of the box to blow apart. My job was to repair that damage offline. I would either glue the parts back together and/or cut new pieces of wood to effect the repair. I would than apply the glue in the joint and clamp it in place. The glue was cured using a radio frequency device. I used a device that had 2 metal strips which were applied to the glue joint. A squeeze of the trigger and that joint was cured. It would be impossible to re-break that joint as the joint was stronger than the wood it was part of. Radio frequency glue is nothing new in manufacturing. How Ludwig does it perhaps is. The bottom line is the finished shell is never going to delaminate, it would be impossible. How other companies laminate their shells I do not know but it makes total sense for Ludwig to use it as a method to produce consistency in their finished product.

Great stuff! I too started out with Ludwig as a youngster and have come full circle. One thing I've noticed across several videos is that you can really fine tune the tone with different heads, but still retain the embodiment of the "Ludwig sound". These new Ludwigs REALLY respond to the different heads and tunings which leads me to believe that Ludwig has really upped the quality of their production process since the old days. Cheers!

Ludwig has been my choice for many years. I recently purchased their Atlas Pro single pedal..Wonderfully smooth and quick pedal, but i just couldn't get used to the pivoting spring mechanism..I'm hoping that Ludwig will come out with a direct drive version soon, without the pivoting spring, as sort of a beefed up, 21st century Speedking pedal.. If they ever do that, i'm sold ! Furthermore, their Atlas mount is the greatest drum innovation Ludwig has produced in a very long time..Once again, great demo by Mr. Nick !

I love the drums. I have '69 luds. I feel that there is too much load being put on 1 lug on the mounted tom. Especially on a 3 ply. I would use a snare stand or a rims mount. Beautiflul sounding drums. The cymbals, sounded inexpensive. Great playing!
