I would’ve bought that $1 shack, refurbished the flooring and posts, built a small loft with enough room for a mattress, the tv wall mounted above the door, replaced the windows with hurricane safe windows with closabable metal shudders that also act as solar panels for electricity, then underneath the loft I would have my dresser which could be used as a countertop as well for appliances, all you really need nowadays is an air fryer oven to cook and a fridge/freezer. due to the weight of the fridge I would probably buy the fridge and freezer separately in smaller versions instead of a normal combo one in every house. bathroom isn’t really that big of a deal being over water. water pump can be connected and ran straight into the ocean, depending on where that house is the water may even be warm already. obviously there’s other things such as installing a window AC unit. different ways to blueprint the build like making the loft half cut off vs making the loft a full size floor. all in all with land purchase and construction you would be set back maybe a couple G’s so $2,001 for a self sustaining dockside loft apartment style home that you can upgrade and change whenever and however you want and not struggle through life trying to just live in it with normal human necessities worrying about electric water or rent bills, living life exactly how you want too, employed and breaking your body to show your worth to someone who probably already has seen it but doesn’t like how you look or talk or dress and act so you never promote or get what you deserve. waking up whenever you want to sun shine with the smell of coffee lingering in the air being able to step right outside in the morning and cast a line out for some fish or take a leap off your deck for a refreshing morning dip. people see things that show little to no value and laugh and look down on them like they’re god but what all that money does is make you forgot the value of the things around you instead of creating something valuable and sought after with what your given. You spend 5 years making that shack your idea of home and perfect and your ready to move forward in life or even just find another shack, then that shack you paid $1 for 5 years ago becomes someone else’s own slice of heaven/someone else’s sanctuary and you charge them $1000 a month for it, you put it up on air bnb and rent it out for $200 a night, you put it on eBay auctions and see what the highest number climbs to.

It's actually a myth that it's the worst time to buy a house. Gen Z are wayyy outpacing Millennials in homebuying, and homeowner rates haven't really changed much over the last 100 years

People are still buying, but that doesn't mean they aren't being fucked over by debt more than previous generations ever were. A couple decades ago, you could very feasibly by a house with a decent mortgage and low interest rate without needing to have a stellar credit score. Now that's a necessity unless you want to live in the middle of bumfuck nowhere
