This was one of the best video/sales presentations I have ever seen. I have two updated “vintage” Speed Kings so I don’t need one but Leigh seems like such a nice person and the presentation is so good I am tempted to buy one. I am curious Leigh, does the build quality seems as good as the original? Do the towers seem as sturdy as the original SK, and same with the footboard? Thank you for an excellent presentation.

I bought one of the new Speed King pedals. It's awesome except the beater flew off while playing. Luckily I had the beater off my old Speed King. The new SK's don't have the nut that locks down the beater. Maybe they should upgrade that as the vintage SK's got that part right.

Interesting bit about heel-toe, I use that pretty extensively with a size 13 foot so it would appear this wouldn't be an ideal pedal for that. But I've been playing one for weeks now and that technique works great and without a click sound. I saw this video after realizing it worked fine on that pedal so I'm wondering if maybe it varies from pedal to pedal? Maybe because I'm further up on the board? Looking to buy a refurbed original. Great video!

I played a 1965 Rogers Swervomatic for close to fourty years!! Some dick stole it but left a Pearl chain drive in it,s place! I loved that pedal!

I used Speed Kings for decades, but one failed on stage without warning. It's good that Ludwig finally updated the old warrior with common sense improvements. I know that SKs have a cult following, but I will stick with my DW 5000.

I had the same experience in the late ‘60s: the linkage broke at the end of the first set, and I had no backup pedal and no tools. I hunted down an electrician doing after-hours emergency repairs on the fourth floor of the hotel at which I was playing. With some solid core wire, wire cutters, and pliers and fifteen minutes later, I had a functioning Speedking pedal. It was stiff at the beginning but got better, and I was able to finish the gig.

Drum companies are going backwards to capitalize on nostalgia. I wish Ludwig would lose that giant logo on the bass drum. My '69 kit has a nice small logo near the top. Classy!

I just order the decals and add them to a blank head. Worked well.

A key feature about this pedal is the location of the foot board pivot: below the ball of the heel, not at the end of the foot board. Having the pivot at this location allows you to use the natural motion of the foot, in a flat foot manner, to assist in the beater return, rather than relying on the spring tension. During this pedal’s original era, the Ghost Drum Pedal, and the Rogers Swivomatic, Solid Footboard Pedal had this same feature---I used all three. Here is a video of Joe Morello using that technique: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6WaaK2dZd93iqs

Think I enjoyed your accent and way of explaining it all, more than the pedal… and I own an original that I just reworked to operate like new again. A little oil goes a long way, world. Just saying…

Youre showing these things from too far away too see anything and at the close ups you cover the thing youre trying to show with your other hand. I like the video idea and you obviously know what youre talking about, but it could be executed a little different, especially for a product demonstration / comparison.

@@cariaddrums no problem Leigh. Id love to see your channel grow as you take your time to mention every little detail, which is great. I own a 70s SK myself, and would definitely dig all the drum key bolt improvments and the new bearings, but I find the price of the new one a little too steep. You can get a perfectly fine vintage SK for 1/10 of that price tag :)

@@cariaddrums a simple table where to put on both pedals would have been very useful, and much more comfortable for you as well, I guess, but I appreciate your video anyway. 👍🏼
