Btw for anyone who isn't a cat person: yes they're weird about litter boxes lol but every cat is different. we have 4 cats in our house, and we have 6 littler boxes because 2 out of the 4 refuse to shit in the box if any of the other cats have even pissed in it, they'll literally just shit next to it instead, so we try to keep enough backups lol One of the 4 cats also for some reason has this ritual everytime he shits where he runs from litter box to litter box before randomly choosing one, and when he finishes his business he literally jumps out of the box and sprints away at lightspeed as if his poop has come alive and is trying to swallow him whole. It's the little things that make having cats so entertaining lol it's like having a bunch of unpredictable sleep deprived crackheads in your house at all times except they only want food and warmth

yo! some info for cat owners in the comments 1. get at least 1 litter box per cat +1, if you have the room for it. so 3 litterboxes for 2 cats is ideal - this makes them more territorially confident and less likely to pee on random stuff. of course not everyone has room for that many litterboxes, but you should definitely have at least one per cat. 2. dear god do NOT train your cat to use the toilet lmfao litterboxes are not that bad i promise, they'd much prefer something they can have their scent on and something they don't have a considerable risk of falling into and either making a mess or, worst case scenario, drowning in. 3. bubbling water sources/water fountains are a bit pricey but they're great for your cat if you can a. afford it and b. get the cat to use it. cats don't drink enough water (one of the reason why wet food is much better for them) and having a fresh and moving water source incentivizes them to drink more (it's also healthier for them if it runs through a filter & runs less of a risk of contracting any kidney infections)

you’re supposed to have one litter box per cat, basically a 1:1 ratio. this makes it so that if your cat becomes territorial they have a second option and don’t pee around the house. Example: parents have three cats, oldest one is territorial and started peeing on the wall where the youngest one ate so we moved the youngest’s food bowl and put a new litter box in its place (went from two to three litter boxes)
