It's no wonder those pills had such an extreme side effect at the end. I mean even slightly doped up Hody isn't even a challenge for Luffy, so being able to give him the strength to make it a tough fight in the end was quite a feat! Anything with that kind of power has to have an equally powerful drawback. Heck, it wasn't even the fight that did Luffy completely in cause he was trying to destroy that ship so it wouldn't fall on the island, which exacerbated his blood loss.
