Күн бұрын

He was the first Luftwaffe pilot to break the records, becoming the highest-scoring ace of the Spanish Civil War. Afterwards, he becomes the first Luftwaffe pilot with 50 aerial victories, ultimately becoming the highest-scoring fighter pilot in history by breaking the record set by the famous Red Baron, Manfred Von Richthofen, in World War I and the first fighter pilot to score 100 areal victories. Although overshadowed by the more successful and famous Luftwaffe pilots, he earned his place in history by becoming their role model. His name was Werner Mölders.

My granduncle was a pilot in his squad. His name was Heinz Josef Wiest. He died in a landing accident at St. Inglevert 1941 when the ground personnel refused to light the landing strip fire due to enemy plane attacks. Running out of fuel he landed in heavy fog crashing into a ground bunker breaking his neck.

Thanks for the value-free and fact oriented documentation, which is probably only possible abroad. As one of his nephews, I find it a pity that the Mölders Squadron 52 in Neuerburg is no longer allowed to bear the name of my uncle, an irreproachable, blameless World War II officer.

Thank you, it means a lot to me coming from you. It is interesting Pat Pattle's cousin commented on the video about him, and now a comment from Werner Mölders' nephew. What an honor. I guess my videos are reaching the right audience.

Sir: I’m am researching some ancestors. My mother was a Mölders and because I was in the RAF and very interested in fighter jets. My cousin in Düsseldorf mentioned to me that I had a distant cousin named Werner Molders who was a famous fighter jet ace and sent me information and photos of him. I just watched the you tube and also just purchased the Werner Molders photo biography book. I have to say sir that if he was indeed your uncle I feel honored to have watched this you tube and that you are his nephew. However if you are his nephew and he’s a distant cousin of mine then it seems to me that you and I are related. My mother was in the Luftwaffe and on my birth certificate it does say Molders. I am fascinated with this fighter ace. In the WRAF I was in Air Traffic control, which was a good few years ago. Thank you again for the You Tube I feel so proud of this long ago fighter ace.

I am very proud of men like Werner Molders. Adolf Galland, Helmet Wick, and so many others. They truly set a path in which good fighter pilots could flourish, and exchange information about aircraft and tactics, from the masters of their trade. What I liked too was that after the war, become great friends with their counterparts in the RAF as well a the US fighter pilots as well. And after a couple of drinks each side of former enimies could and would tell their counter parts the tricks of the trade for their operations.

Another outstanding production! As a pilot myself and lover of history, I find it amazing to learn of the problems with motion sickness. I too had some initial problems with this and to overcome this takes an extreme level of “want to”. I appreciate the clear and concise videos you are producing. Keep up the good work! I look forward to every new video.

I appreciate the fact he was also aware of military vs civilian targets. 2 P-51 shot down both pilots captured after the Germans had viewed gun camera footage it showed a German pilot in his chute being gunned to death. They promptly confirmed which pilot belonged to that plane and executed him the following day.

Would you ever do a video on the Western New Britain Campaign? It has multiple amphibious landings and lots of short fighting bursts, but it quiets down towards the end of the campaign with a Japanese retreat and allied chase and has an interesting tactical conclusion. I figure its possible to do in 1 - 2 videos. And basically nobodies done any videos on them so you'd definitely be the first if you did! Good work btw

Just an opinion but I think Galland and Mölders, were both better pilots the Hartmann, despite having lower kill scores because they flew against mainly British and American opponents while Hartmann got his numbers against the less able pilots of the Soviets.

@Scott Krater What evidence do you have to base your opinions on about Soviet pilots? The uncomfortable truth is, the most successful Allied pilots against the Luftwaffe were Soviet. And from the beginning of August 1943, the bulk of the German fighter arm was based in Germany.

@@DannyBoy777777 Soviet propaganda. All you have is Soviet claims. Soviets were trained to fly in formation. Even under attack. The Germans flew against the Soviets till the end of the war. They were non existent against RAF and USSAF fighters. The best pilots next to Germans was the western allies.

Molders real power was in his leadership; his ability to organize & direct his fellow fighters operationally. I read a fascinating Alt-History story that involved Molders dodging his fatal air crash and living on into the war, becoming Director-General of Fighters on the Western Front, where he was able to (temporarily) hold back the daylight bomber offensive.

Mostly it was unintentionally overclaiming kills because there was no time to follow the smoking plane crashing on the ground. Most elite pilots had their own prides. You must accept the fact that elite men are difference from the shameless men.

@@user-tb6uj9hz6k That doesn't make grammatical sense. So I'm not clear on what your point is. The reasons are irrelevant. Over claiming happened. That is a fact. The Luftwaffe overestimated RAF losses by a factor of 3:1 in the Battle of Britain. RAF Fighter Command over claimed 4:1 during the Circus offensives, 1941/2. The Luftwaffe claimed American bombers losses by a factor of 2.5:1. Individuals like Bader, Johnson, Marseille, Galland, Mölders claimed far more than they actually destroyed. Eastern Front was even worse.
