The first 150 seconds (The A-section) of this wonderful piece is accessible to intermediate level amateurs who know how to read music and have some ideas about the world we live in. If I were a piano teacher, I'd try to inspire my adult students to spend more time at the piano learning how to play great, emotional themes like this one. Music is meant to be performed like in the days before the radio and gramophone.
@danibv1291 Жыл бұрын
I consider myself an intermediate amateur pianist and I can assure this whole piece is accessible. I learnt it in only a month, I thought it would have taken much more time but it really isn't that hard. It's one of the best pieces to learn, and one of the easiest Rach pieces out there.
@deniztokur3597 Жыл бұрын
@@danibv1291 i kinda agree with you but the middle of the B-section insanely hard. You need a lot of control on the piano. But it is not impossible if you study slow and slow. Also the coda is pretty challenging.
@kliberalsing Жыл бұрын
@@deniztokur3597 You're right about that.
@kliberalsing Жыл бұрын
@@danibv1291 Good for you :)) keep practising and soon you'll be an advanced level amateur pianist, you will then be able to play most of Rachmaninoff's pieces with skill and control. And why not the Chopn etudes. There are only 27 of them. Might as well learn the Scherzi and Ballades too. Good luck my friend.
@evieashton809911 ай бұрын
@@kliberalsing I would say this piece is actually quite inaccessible, personally. Hitting all the right notes is the easy part, but the dynamics and control you need to play this and have it sound GOOD is incredibly difficult. (Especially if you’re on a piano with heavier keys.) But at least it’s not a piece that requires giant hands! Although it’s a great piece to teach int amateurs anyway. The jumps and parts where you cross your hands over one another are great to get more ‘mobility’ in playing, and the whole B section is a very fun exercise. A shame the shapes in Eb minor are all so wonky… but that’s a part of the learning, too.

Same! My parents never recorded my recitals (granted this was before smart phones existed), and I wish they had at least recorded Elegy. It was my favorite and also had it memorized (I was 15). We moved when I was almost 16, so my classical lessons stopped. Miss playing, but not sure it’d come back to me now (33). 💔
