Triangle was not used. Also sometimes instead of a ❌the teacher would simply / or \ through the number, guess when they are being fast / it's multiple choice.

I was confused by the triangle then i found out about this. A bullseye "◎" (nijūmaru; 二重丸) is often used for "excellent", the circle is a plain affirmation, the triangle "△" (sankaku; 三角) means "so-so" or "partially applicable", and the "×" expresses disagreement. The more you know.
