The game gave me uneasy feelings as a child. I had a hard time watching my cousin play, and the times I got to play myself I was uncomfortable. I played many other games and genres, and had multiples systems before playing SM64, and never had the same feeling even if the game was intentionally weird or scary. Even at 30 years old, watching this video play in the background brings back the very same unsettling vibes. Curious.

It's the music. That's what dies it to me. If they wanted it to feel like "Discovering a lost Atlantis" as the video puts it they'd have at least put in Jolly Roger Bays music. But its the underground theme, giving it a feeling of a tragic drowned city thats not meant to be discovered, but burried by time.

This is a really good successor to Mish Koz's video over the Iceberg. It basically covers the same stuff, but with all the new info we know now because of the source code leaks. Speaking of which, Mish Koz explains that the "half A-press" is only a notation that's used in an isolated level run. Otherwise, if it were a full game run, it'd still count as 1 a press. So because Pannenkoek enters the level and ends the level already holding A and because (say, Watch For Rolling Rocks for example) is being played in isolation instead of in a full-game run, it's notated as half an A-press. Its still technically 1 whole A press in a full-game context. The whole "phases of a button press" explanation kinda misses the point.

Parallel universes do not go on forever. They will be limited by some other number overflow which will eventually have Mario overflow over entirely to the other side of the map. I don't know the full details, but if the actual position is stored as a 32 bit integer then this would be up to around +2 and - 2 billion. If it's a an IEEE 754 32 bit float it will be + 10^308 (yes 10 with 308 digits) to -10^308, but that won't really work since the precision is lost and eventually the minimum distance Mario will be able to move will go from millimeters to kilometers to distances larger than the size of our universe and only single positions in specific PUs will be accessible, but they likely won't even be accessible if there's rounding and Mario will hit and get stuck at a point far but not that far away. If it's not rounded or especially if it's an integer, you'd actually be able to go so far in one direction and go through so many PUs that you'd end up back at the real level.

If you knew this, don't criticize me. I'm just trying to explain. The Ghoul Medal is a joke. Ghoul nearly sounds the same as gold, and the map is meant to be scary. So are Ghouls. This could also mean why the Japanese version is different. In Japanese, Gold is 黄金 (kogane) and Ghoul is グール (gūru). I hope this helps!

I can explain the sign in the third floor that says “Please Walk Quietly in the hallway.” It’s a special activation switch for Wet-Dry World. Basically you are supposed to tip-toe all the way over to the painting and jump inside. The water level in the course will be higher than normal and it would be completely flooded and much easier than using the cannon as a means to get inside of it.

Idk why people say you can’t ride yoshi, in my personalized copy you can actually ride him and when you take him to the courtyard, it unlocks Luigi and you can fight Wario and get the 121’st star
