From what I've seen in solo runs, there must be more to it, because it's actually possible to surpass the threshold and the floor just ends normally. Although that's when you collect an item that's worth more coins than are needed, for which there could be a dedicated failsafe, or when you trigger a fountain of money items, in which case that doesn't really apply because you collect past the threshold after the round has already ended. Regardless, I do think you might need to get the clear on the same frame as the floor times out.
