The original game definitely looks better due to the difference in resolution, but that’s to be expected. Still, it’s really impressive how, apart from that, they look virtually the same. Yes, the GameCube might be 15 years old, but I remember how at the time I used to imagine a day in the future when we’d be able to play games with GameCube level graphics on the go, and how that felt so unreal. So to see a literal GameCube game run on the 3DS is pretty cool and impressive in retrospect, even though there’s been games on the 3DS itself that’ve looked more graphically impressive. Puts things into perspective, you know?

Monster Hunter Stories being one such game that looks absolutely way too gorgeous for the 3DS. But yeah, for the most part its pretty similar. I definitely prefer Luigis model in the 3DS game.

Amazing Job Recreating the Trailer GameXplain, That must of taken so much editing and work and I really appreciate you doing this. I have seen many of your videos and I have been a huge fan of the Luigi's Mansion Series from the very beginning. I also played dark moon in 2013 that was a great game and the fact that they are recreating the original for the 3ds is amazing.

The recreation is almost frame by frame. That effort was really worth it, thank you! Interestingly though, the GameCube version actually looks largely better than the 3DS in most instances. Apart from some texture tweaks like on Mario’s portrait, GameCube is better.

2:58 shows the animations are slightly better on the 3DS, but I personally prefer his older model. It was a lot darker and fit the whole haunted mansion aesthetic than the one they're using for 3DS. It's just so bright and colorful, too cheery to fit the theme

I agree. I feel like this exists because it is relatively easy to port Luigi's Mansion on the 3DS and they want to have it brought forward so it is on peoples minds again. I hope it happens and it should happen but I have been let down by stuff like this before so don't get your hopes up too much.

For the most part, I think the original looks better. It has a better resolution, the 3D models are sharper and it has amazing lightning effects that were toned down in the 3DS port. It's specially noticeable with the ghosts. But all that was expected. Considering the 3DS limitations, I must say I'm REALLY impressed! It looks really nice and it's very faithful to the original in all aspects. I'm a sucker for Luigi's design in the original. It's a nice blend between his N64 and GameCube designs, but I'm not complaining. It's nice they updated his model, and he's still very expressive. These guys are making a great job! And I must say some parts look better on the 3DS version, like the scene with Luigi looking at Mario's painting. The original has a darker, creepier vibe because of the superior lightning, but I'm very glad they tried their best to recreate it on the 3DS. I mean, they could go for a cartoony artstyle like in Dark Moon, but they choose to keep the original "realistic" artstyle.

The ghosts are...more solid looking...on the 3DS version. They did better with transparency in Dark Moon. +The transparency might have been better on Dark Moon because they sacrificed environmental detail. Hence the extremely polygonal look. They may have done that to save on space so the ghosts could be more transparent.

Now that I see them side-by-side, a lot of the environmental structures and textures actually look noticeably improved in the 3DS version, though their impact is dampened a bit by the 3DS's low resolution. But the lighting in the original GameCube version still looks darker and much more atmospheric, which was a big part of what made that game so memorable to me.

Guy Dude dude...it's a different model. Original model looks like N64 era Luigi and the remaster it's the same model than Dark Moon but with the expressions from the original. Also I'm pretty sure that's Dark Moon engine, I can recognize the same lightning and shadow effects from the game. Honestly, original game still looks better than this new version

(Well, besides from the facr they probably used a ton of dark moon assets) There is no possible way they could have gotten the same exact model in this game. The architecture of the 3ds would be way different than the gamecube.

Of course Gamecube looks better, the resolution comparison is stark when shown side by side like this. That matters less when you take into account the fact that the 3DS version is for a much smaller screen. There looks to be plenty of areas where this is an upgrade to me, I can see numerous instances of improved textures and models on the 3DS version.

Well, it would make sense for them to make it a 3DS exclusive. Dark Moon was a 3DS exclusive and Nintendo saw to also include the first game so users could understand that Dark Moon was a sequel and understand the history of a LM. Nintendo isn't looking at it through the eyes of you, they aren't seeking to port, they are seeking a reason why to port it in a marketing sense. Though I would love a Switch port.

Here's what I noticed about the differences between both. It's a lot, I know. I'm a big Luigi's Masion fan so I noticed some things some people who haven't played the game yet probably wouldn't. I hope you like my review! If you noticed anything I didn't don't be afraid to tell. I would love to know! I feel like the 3ds version looks slightly better, especially at some parts. But for the most part, I think the GameCube original looks pretty good, especially for 2001. I noticed that Chauncey's face when he yells it a lot more expressive in the GameCube original. The eyes look smaller and angrier, and there seems to be more wrinkles in his face that show he's *really* angry. The Chauncey in the 3ds' face had more open and less angry eyes and just seems calmer. Another thing I noticed was that the door in Foyer doesn't have the spiky glowy vines like in the original. This makes me wonder if either that won't be a feature and you'll just be able to walk through, they already unlocked the part, or if when you try to touch the door something with either the spikes or something new will happen that'll keep you away until you capture Chauncey. I also saw that in the Foyer there are a lot more spider webs than there are in the original. A nice touch in my opinion. The chandelier in the Foyer looks more like flowers in the sense that they have little-spiked pedals on the tops of each light in the 3ds version. Some rooms are a lot brighter, like the Conservatory and the Tea Room. Mario's painting in much clearer and he doesn't constantly bang on the glass. He looks around first and then bangs. The ghosts seem to be a lot less opaque in the 3ds version, letting you see more details, which I actually quite enjoy. In the GameBoy Horror map for the 3ds version, you can see an option to zoom out, change floor maps, your boo count, a button at the bottom to see how much money and gems you collected, and the portrait ghosts you've collected so far, along with information about each one. I actually really like this new GameBoy Horror map. It seems a lot cleaner. The map in the original was hard to navigate at some times, especially with all of the rooms looking the same and not exactly having names plastered onto them, so if you wanted to go to the Telephone Room you would have to remember exactly where it is. In this map, though it doesn't label every room, it shows a kind of inside view, so if you knew what the room you were looking for looked like on the inside and what floor it was one you could just go to the floor and look for the room with the same floor plan you were looking for. Also, another thing to note about the scene where they're showing off the map. It seems when you turn on the fire you have to move the 3Ds to aim the fire, as seen at 1:29. Look to the bottom left corner of the top screen of the 3ds and notice how you have to move to aim. Instead of the hearts being on the left side of the screen they moved it to the bottom right where the GameBoy horror usually would be.

The GameCube has a more dark and Erie vibe and places where you might want to use the flashlight to see better but the 3DS has some lighter places where the flashlight is not needed (look at the foyer for example) and a boss ghost has much less HP than the GameCube original but I am still gonna get the 3DS remake because Luigi’s mansion is my favorite game of all time

Guys, remember how after the Chauncey fight in the original game, you could do that trick where you get behind the treasure chest and clip out of bounds, allowing you to sequence break the game and even beat it way faster than intended? It's a remake indeed and I can't believe it, actually got more detail and new texture work on 3DS, and some of the 3D models like Luigi himself got some newers proportions. The obviously downsides are the resolution and the overall global ilumination but is looking incredible regardless.

+Silver Wolf The thing about Dark Moon is that it was released far later than the original Luigi's Mansion. Not only was the model built from scratch, but they also had the animations work with the model. In this game, they're trying to make that same model animate exactly like the original model. As much as I like faithful adaptions, I feel like creating completely new animations that compliment the new model is a more visually appealing idea.

The one thing I noticed is that Luigi's mustache in the GCN version is dark black but in the 3DS remake is Blackish Brownish. Only thing tht looks worse is tht they brightened up the game to make it easier to see when playing on a small screen (especially cause of the much lower resolution). Lighting and resolution is really the only thing tht looks worse on the 3DS remake. Everything else got a small bump in graphics. (better models (even though they didnt bother making the new Luigi model more expressive but eh) and redesigned textures)

I’m a huge fan, and I already have done some speculation. Overall, the game looks very faithful to the 2001 counterpart. But there are key differences. The 3DS is lot brighter, overall, especially in dark rooms. (I may turn down my 3DS brightness a tad to replay it.) The lightning, lightbulb, and fire effects are much more dramatic in the remake. The ghosts do not have defined edges and are much more smeared. The 3DS Mansion is much much MUCH less dusty. The Health display is slightly different, and relocated to the bottom right. The shrinking heart is back though. The distracting, defining wood boarders to the rooms to indicate the edges are removed. The detailed carpet work and tile work of the original Mansion has been simplified. Oddly, the locked doors to new areas no longer have a lightning effect. I guess it was a bit over kill to make it hurt you if you didn’t have the key. Someone turned on the furnace in the remake, as Luigi’s Breath isn’t visible. The Boo counter is Missing from the top screen in the remake. Much of the footage is taken from after you are required to obtain five Boos. Perhaps the mission is removed entirely. The shelf objects are much more realistically scaled in the remake. The ballroom tiles are much smaller. The chandelier in the foyer is different, as well as the veil on the mirror. Mario’s Portrait has a background, and his painting style is now smeared, rather than spattered. Textures are overall cleaner than the original. So looks decent. Yes it is. At 1:30 the bottom is revealed to have 50 Boos again just like the original. It uses the Super Mario Maker Sprite for the Boos, and the Super Mario Maker Sprite for Luigi as well. The Boo Radar is still on the top screen, but just the Boo Radar and not the Gameboy, so it looks kind of goofy.

Great job on recreating the scenes from the trailer! I'm a bit disappointed that they went with 3DS instead of switch because it's such a beloved game, but it was probably easier to do since they had the other Luigi's Mansion game. Fingers crossed they're working on one for the Switch eventually.

1:22 The textures on the ground in the 3DS is higher quality. 1:40 The crows and the branch they stand on is much clearer with better textures and models. 1:48 Luigi's animation and model is much better in the 3DS. 2:02 His vacuum clips through the door and Luigi in the GC version. 2:07 The chandelier actually glows. 2:08 The lion head isn't as detailed in the GC version. 2:10 The frame of the painting in the 3DS version is a much better model. The hud is visible in the CG cutscene. Look at these and tell me how the 3DS does not objectively better in terms of models, textures, and animation. However at 1:33 the baby in the Game Cube looks much better.

The changes I noticed: -Models have higher polcounts. -Colors are Lighter -Certain props look different (Gate. Chandelier and the door with the weird vine things in the original). -The gosts are still transparent but they don't glow as much as in original. -Textures are lower resolution in some case while higher in others like the branch the Crows are on is higher res and now properly UV unwrapped(To explain what that is: it's how the texture map is distributed) Grass texture is also cleaner the area around the mario painting also has higher resolution. Overall the only noteable lower resolution texture is the mansion's main door. Gameplay sections seem to have have better textures mostly.

I really noticed how much better the GameCube version looks. Maybe the Luigi model does look a bit better than the GameCube version, but I still think it should have gone on the Switch. Also, I noticed something odd. At 2:42 (and other points in the video) it looks like the door on the first floor is not blocked. Does this mean it is accessible right away now? Or does it just need a key and still is non-accessible? Also we know it is at the beginning of the game and not later because Luigi does not have the poltergeist yet.

Starwarznerd 27 You have to realise that Game cube and 3ds both are 4:3 whilst the switch is 16:9 which would make it hard to port. Also They already had an engine made on 3ds for Dark moon so you can't blame them for making it on 3ds. This will come to switch but probably as a VC title rather than a remake. If Nintendo keep the pace that they have for the past year I don't think we will be waiting too long for Luigis mansion 3 on switch.

Of course, the gamecube version will look better because it was upscaled here in this video. But it looks good on the actual 3ds. And for people asking why it is on the 3ds, obviously it is because the software sales on the 3ds is on par with the switch. ( 3ds sales is sometimes higher than the switch. SOURCE: Dengeki sales chart, week 8 of 2018) clearly someone is going to buy this game. And it will be a lot of people. The goal is to support 3ds and switch. Not to make them buy switch and abandon 3ds. I will enjoy this game while these switch only users whine. :D

Actually, since it’s on the 3DS, it actually has more new features than on Switch. If it was just on the Switch, it would look nicer, and have the boss rush mode. That’s it. Aside from graphical capabilities, the 3DS is capable of doing much more when doing a remake justice. The original Luigi’s Mansion still looks fine. Luigi’s Mansion isn’t a game that has to look pretty when it comes to what it tries to accomplish. On the 3DS, it’s able to be played in 3D like how the original was tampered to be played on the Gamecube. It utilizes both screens in a way that makes it special to the 3DS. You can now play the Sequel and the original back to back without switching consoles. And people that are already hooked on the Luigi’s Mansion series already have a 3DS thanks to Dark Moon. Just because “it could have been on Switch” doesn’t mean you missed the second coming of christ.

Wow, very good job in recreating that trailer! I noticed that on 3DS, Luigi's model and many textures have been improved, with more detail. This can best be seen at 5:16. The lighting and transparency effects have definitely been towned down, though. Also, the health meter is on the right this time.

Gamecube has effects, post processing and shadows set to high but textures are low. 3ds has minimal effects, high textures minimal post processing to medium and both have epic quality anti aliasing

The texture work in the 3DS version is a huge step up. There are loads of grimy and low res textures in the GameCube version that have been reworked or replaced altogether to better match the mood and lighting in most of these rooms. Rugs, tree bark, grass, stonework, even some of the wallpapers all look more ornate and weathered. Replaced models also seem more ornate, like the Mansion gates, as well as the Mansion itself. It does seem like some effects, like transparencies, are harder to achieve on the 3DS. You can tell Chauncey is slightly transparent in the 3DS battle, but most of the ghosts seem more opaque in general. I assume this is what Next Level has been working on, and I sure do hope his leads to a Luigi's Mansion 3 from them that finds a better middle ground between 1 and Dark Moon, so everyone will be happy.

Z64 No, Remakes are suppose to be rebuilt from the ground up with completely new modern graphics for example: Resident Evil on Gamecube. Remasters are just an increase in resolution, maybe a little better textures and with better frame rates due to being on better hardware. This Luigi's Mansion is was called a remake but the difference is so little it's really more like a port and can't even be called a remake or remaster because things look worse than the original.

The 3DS remake is coming out on December 31, 2018. Nintendo didn't straight out release the date but if you look on sites like GameStop or Amazon, they allow you to pre-order it and they show the release date.
