Crystal Bridges! ❤ That first view of the eagle was gorgeous! I'm not used to that dramatic sheen on sculptures, so I was immediately curious what it's made from. "If you have looked at the Mexican flag..." I have not! I was used to the colors, but never paid much attention to the eagle in the center, so that was interesting to learn about. I love how the artist's automotive background enabled him to use materials that gave this piece such a unique look. Another Smarthistory banger to ease the pain of Monday, lol. Glad I caught it.

It's fascinating discovering the art styles practised by different cultures around the world. This dramatic, vividly coloured sculpture reminds me of the artwork intrinsically linked with Mexico - Alberijes. It may be depicting a real creature, but the eagle has strong mythical meanings. And the way this bald eagle is perched on the prickly pear cactus, with its wings stretched around it, at first glance, the two seem to merge together creating a strange, dangerous creature. The flbreglass gives it a beautiful sheen.

As an illegal alien, a term use in USA for those who enter illegaly, I had the previleged to had worked with Luis, actually he adopted me when he caught me living on Magoffi St in El Paso TX. He was cleaning his mothers yard which adjacent to his dad sign business. His workers, Mario, Silver at the time, and Luis, showed me compassion and took me under their wing. With Luis I went to Tucson, and Rio Hondo NM. He was a straight person. He loved his dogs and plenty of pets he had. Eagle was in his works at the time, that was in 1985. Eagle was his charter in many of his scupltures. His eyebrowns, without a menace where those of an American eagle, yet, as the furiosidad of his Blue Mustan he was a gentle and cool man. I am in debt to Luis, as the same I am in debt to Mario, Silver, his pets...dogs, guacamaya, Albert the goat. That church in Hondo NM was his favoirite place. He is at peace. He lived his dream in his own way and The Eagle, along with The Burning Man, Blue Mustang along with La Pieta and countless of other works are his Legacy. Muchas gracias Luis.
