Let's be real, that whole Anthony Edwards face of the league narrative they want to push through is only from one reason. Yes, he is extremely good, a playoff player and very marketable, but most notably: he is American. The NBA following in the US can't handle that the last 6 MVP's are all foreign born + guys like Luka and Wemby haven't even won one. If it wasn't for Embiid's injury there was a real shot as a fully international All NBA 1st team.

@@ImAviex Funnily enough most old NBA fans at the time were saying you could never win a chip with a guard like MJ at the helm. Narrative flipped on its head by the end of his career. Now the old heads and media pundits want everyone to be MJ. At the end of the day winning is the only way these narratives will go away no matter how ridiculous they are. And last season when he didn't make the playoffs, did he "take" that team there? This "taking two teams to the playoffs" is the weakest argument for anything because you could say that about 8 different guys. Luka's a great shooter/scorer and playmaker who had just as much an MVP worthy season as Jokic or SGA. To say this team "shouldn't be in the playoffs" is laughable and I haven't read or heard anyone saying that. If anything everyone has been saying the opposite because the team suddenly went from barely making the playoffs to being the 5th seed. Luka and Kyrie didn't change. The rest of the team changed. So that raises all sorts of questions, like how good/impactful are his stats? If he's so good, (put in the same sentence as MJ et al) why did a few trades make so much difference? And would they even be in the playoffs without Kyrie and the new trades? This is why people question him as a "team leader" or a "great whatever". I don't think anyone disputes his scoring. I blame the media and Lebron for this ridiculous need to make someone a "generational" whatever. They do the same shyt in the NFL and look how that's turned out with Trevor what's his face, QB with the Jags.

I think that the most nonsensical narrative against Luka is that he can't win with his usage and playstyle. Embiid was the #1 in usage this year but he didn't play enough games, Giannis was the #1 last season. Luka's usage was lower during regular season BEFORE both Kyrie and Exum missed games with injuries. In the Playoffs Luka was below SGA, Lillard, Mitchell, Brunson, Embiid, Banchero in usage. But Luka's usage keep popping up in conversations despite all of that. Nobody talks about how Giannis and Embiid were TOP3 in usage the past few seasons, Giannis was still that despite having Lillard and Embiid despite having Maxey. Why is that? Why is usage a bad thing only for Luka? The other two are bigs, Luka is a PG, the best playmaker of all of them by a planet. Why is that a bad thing to have the ball in the hands of someone that can manipulates the defense like Luka does? Someone that can use head fakes, no-looks, and get wide open shots for teammates? Luka is NOT Harden. Luka has a complete package when it comes to offense, it's not just driving, drawing fouls and stepback 3s. He has mid-range, post up, great footwork. Plus, he is a Playoff riser, something that can't be said about Harden. The Mavs were by far, the most injured Western Conference Playoff team. Despite all of that, Luka managed to bring them to 50W, which could have been 52W but the Mavs rested their starters the last 2 games of the season. How doesn't Luka affect winning? He has been to the WCF 2x in 3 years with 2 completely different teams, two teams that defeated the #1 seed and that had NO BUSINESS going that far. But somehow he is not a winner? (age 21: 31/10/9) 2020 Playoffs: KP only played 3 games, THJ became the 2nd scorer avg 18ppg and Trey Burke started for 3 games. (age 22: 35/8/10) 2021 Playoffs: KP avg 13ppg and THJ was the 2nd scorer with 17ppg, Brunson avg 8ppg. (age 23: 32/10/7) 2022 Playoffs: Brunson avg 21ppg and Dinwiddie 14ppg The best 8 of the WCF run roster included DFS, Bullock, Kleber, Bertans and Powell besides Luka, Brunson and Dinwiddie. How can you say that Luka isn't the reason they overachieved by reaching the WCF? Does this look like a roster that was supposed to go that far? What happened to role players who had a career year with Luka after they were traded mid-season? Dinwiddie Wiz (2022): 3PT 31% Mavs (2022): 3PT 40% Mavs (2023): 3PT 40% Nets (2022): 3PT 29% DFS: Mavs (2022): 3PT 39% Mavs (2023): 3PT 36% Nets (2023): 3PT 30% Is it a coincidence that DJJ, PJ and Gafford are all having great runs alongside Luka? (age 25) 2024 is the first time that Luka actually has a decent roster, PJ and DJJ are worse shooters but more versatile players than DFS and Bullock. Kyrie fits better than Brunson, Maxi is injured but Gafford and Lively are by far the best C Luka played with. His playstyle is different from Harden, his vision and defense manipulation are at a different level than Harden ever was. Luka is still growing, he hit more catch and shoots than he has ever done before in his career, he is willing to play more off the ball. Luka is finally showing some defense and mind you, yes, better than just average, by far the best effort of his career. Go check people breaking down Luka's defense this season and Playoffs (Awful Coahing has at least 3 videos). He has been more than "not a liability", "average defender" or a "passable defense". He had some key defensive plays, big steals and help defense. So he affects winning and his playstyle can clearly win. He had to do more before because he had a roster disadvantage. Swap the 2022 WCF run and put another star in Luka's place and they wouldn't reach the WCF. Imagine if Luka had Tatum's team this whole time in the East. Ant is great but 22 years old Luka was better than 22 years old Ant, imagine if instead of THJ, 13ppg KP and Boban, Luka had McDaniels, KAT and Golbert? Sure, I get it, the whining to the refs is just terrible but that's not an argument for not recognizing his greatness.

My first impression of Luka as a Mav was that he reminded me mostly of Larry Bird... big, crafty, great passer, slow and deliberate..... but then, not even Bird has done some of the crazy shots i've seen from Luka... Disrespected?? Oh hell yeah! Withholding any final judgement of his career, he is easily in the top ten all-time of players to ever pick up a ball... and what should scare you all is that, every single year, he has gotten better and Kidd is the perfect coach for him..... these playoffs, he decided to add some D to his box of tricks and he is excelling once again.... Loved it when someone gushing over Ant-man said, "All he needs to do is improve his passing!" to which i did an eyeroll... there are whole videos just on Luka passing the ball..... So, yeah, Luka gets screwed over for the MVP, to another loser out of the playoffs now so, all he needs to do now is win the whole damn thing! Maybe then some of these moronic talking heads will show some respect! ... but somehow, i imagine that they will find a way to belittle even that....

So when we drafted Luka I didn’t know what we had. Then I saw him play. Now to backup I grew up being a homer Mavs fan and then we’d always lose, in the 90s, so I’d watch the bulls religiously. I’ve been saying this since 2019. Luka is Jordan reborn. I know that’s dumb to say but watching Luka play is like watching Jordan all over again and you’ll even see the Mavs use a triangle like offense. People said I was crazy to say that but Luka proves me right year in and year out. Even last year when we stunk we didn’t have the interior defense and it was basically put together with tape and sticks and Luka had to outscore everyone to give our team a chance. Look at Jordan’s first years. He had to outscore everyone to help his team win. Sound familiar. When they got Kyrie and it didn’t mesh quick I was like okay I hope over the summer they figure each other out and then it clicks. But what people don’t realize Kyrie was out most the beginning of the season. That’s why Luka’s usage rate is so high. He had to score. Joke was on one game Kidd said well I think Luka is gonna have score 60 for us to win and he did lol. And we won. We just had injuries with Kyrie and Luka would have his bumps and bruises. What’s even crazier I think they are draining Luka’s knee that’s why he’s bleeding at times. He won game 1 of the WCF with a knee problem and everyone is still beating up on the guy. I expect Minnesota to throw the kitchen sink at us on Friday but it will be interesting if we win.

Definitely loving this grizzled vet version of Kyrie. They're both something special. I really think his time in Dallas Kyrie is really showing people that ,all the narratives the media try to drop on him, are mostly bullshit. I think he just wants to fucking ball. The way theyre working in Dallas he seems to have morphed into the perfect vet to help a megastar ascend. It's pretty fucking Kool

@@jichaelmorgan3796 Jordan is closer in years and playstyle to Wilt's era than the postmodern era of today. League avg is 30 attempts from 3 now. It took the league until like 1995 to avg even 10 attempt a game. During the 80s the avg was 5 attempts a game. That paint was clogged! There was 0 spacing, no zone defense, no flagrants, no 3 second rule, no left handed layups, no fancy dribbling, no adv offensive or def schemes, no eurostep, no 3 pt shooting, etc. That and Wilt is still the beat athlete humanity has fielded.

@andrewcook1246 I would argue players like Shaq, MJ, Kobe would have similar stats in the 80's, 90's, 2000's, 2010's, 2020's, compared to that of their eras and relative to their competition. Wilt would certainly not have similar levels of domination in any era since the 80's. Shaq would likely have similar stats to Wilt in the 60's.

@andrewcook1246 I would also argue that the original Dream Team would be much more evenly matched against a modern Olympic team, while it would handedly defeat the best collection of players from a decade earlier, then it would start to progressively slaughter teams going back each decade from there. That's why I would consider that time period more mature than the past.

They are STILL wearing BLM t-shirts, 2 years after we found out that the organization was a Leftist front that stole all the money and did nothing for people who needed help (and lied about the problems it was based on). Luka is simply the wrong color to be acknowledged as the best in a leauge traditionally seen as a "black sport". Go watch AI, LeBron, Paul Pierce, etc...talk about Luka's game. Luka isn't winning MVPs not only coz of some unfair narrative, he just didn't have a stronger case than Jokic and Shai (MVP is a necessarily relative award). Nuggets and Thunder had 7 more wins than the Mavs, Jokic had a 31 PER on as usual crazy stats and efficiency (also played 9 more games than Luka), Shai is one of the better defenders in the league while being the most consistent and a super efficient scorer (while being the clear leader of the youngest team ever to get a 1 seed). I also wouldn't venture to say the Nuggets or the Thunder were teams that were so much more talented than the Mavs that record should be negated. Also, comparing Luka's case in 2024 to Jokic in 2021 and 2022 and Russ in 2017 in isolation doesn't make sense, because MVP is relative to the year they played in. Jokic was better than Embiid and Giannis in both those years, and the historicity of what Russ did trumped Harden's better record and great stats. The playoffs thing makes no sense either, MVP is regular season award and looking to things in hindsight is convenient but not realistic. Not about making leaps in careers either, both Russ and Jokic were 4th in MVP voting 2 years before they won their first. If Luka wins the finals, his rep will benefit in the same way Jokic did this year (considering a good portion of the reason he didn't win his 3rd straight was because people didn't wanna put him in the same convo as other 3-straight MVPs who were more successful in the playoffs). Narrative matters, and ultimately stats aren't everything, but Luka should not have won MVP this year for pretty good reasons. He's a first ballot hall of famer and there's a high likelihood we'll see him win MVP in the future, but this year wasn't for him.

When Lebron, said Luka was his favorite current player, I knew he was special. Lebron praises the Euros because he knows they are good and they are improving at a rapid rate. Luka gets a lot of flack, but I’ve seen that before and that person is a top 2-3 player of all time. Luka will join that conversation 100%. Ignoring the noise and letting his work speak for itself. You can't compare him to Jordan overall because Jordan played D as well, and at the highest level, but Jordan was 1 of 1. Luka is my favorite player, but the narrative of him not playing D was warranted. He has been playing D much better, and if continues to do that, and still put up the Goddy offensive numbers, then he has a chance to be close to Jordan. Now, if you want to compare him to anyone and i mean anyone offensively, you can easily argue that he is one of if not the best ever. Luka is 1 of 1, too. The media and everyone else can't figure out why he is as good as he is. And, since they can't understand nor explain it, they create all of these narratives to discredit him. We've seen examples of this throughout history--not just sports.

Luka Doncic - a player who often walks/travels without the referees calling the violation, who turns-over the ball/palms the ball often (not called as a violation by the referees), who regularly pushes-off with his non-dribbling hand, who often charges into defenders without the referees calling a foul on him (Luka). If you do factor in game pace you can see that his total number of points, assists, etc as a ratio of the average output aren't really that great at all. Meanwhile, Mike was averaging 30+ points a game in a league where average scoring was barely 100..

Very rarely do the pundits pass over an opportunity to compare star players with big numbers to star players with small numbers...I can't help but feel like people turned against Luka when it became clear that he could win in the playoffs. A first-round pick with a strong overseas resume that came in amazing and became somehow even more amazing isn't the story people want. They want the guy they originally saw as the underdog that became the superstar. You may want to compare to Lebron: "Everyone knew Lebron was going to be amazing!" And yes, that's true. But Luka...unlike Lebron and unlike just about every other superstar we have yet seen in the NBA, Luka entered the draft with a proven record against professional teams. People already knew he was capable of winning at the highest level. If there is another player in the NBA with Luka's pedigree, I am unaware. I think the collective zeitgeist formed a negative opinion of Luka because of his success. He started winning, proving he wasn't the underdog, and thereby also proving that he is not an underdog.
