This song is a but different than what I'm used to, but I really appreciate how rhythmic this one is. Throughout V3, Maki is a pretty reserved, stubborn character. She's not one for much experimentation of thought because of her unwavering pessimistic first opinions. She's perfectly within her right to think the worse of people with everything she's been through even before the killing game, but in Trial 5 her absolute demonization of Kokichi almost kills everyone (except, ironically, Kaito). The consistent, yet not quite steady rhythm pattern perfectly reflects both Maki's very even yet threatening personality as well as her morbid stubbornness. Great piece!

Here's a theory I made. When Harukawa said "Get it through your thickhead, he's DEAD." I honestly think she was talking to herself. Why I say this is because it caught her off guard when she thought Kaito died. Causing her to tell herself that he isn't dead he must still be alive..But also another part of her telling her to face the truth that Kaito was 'dead' even tho it was Kokichi who was dead. Just here to say that V3's survivors were SO justified, no matter no much you want kokichi back, you have to admit that Maki, Shuichi and Himiko went through the most trauma of losing people they loved. Maki lost Kaito, Shuichi lost Kaede and Himiko lost Tenko and Angie, but they kept going. People saying Maki is nothing but an " Edgy Character " doesn't do her justice. Compared to Ouma and Saihara, I feel like shes ignored. But shes a lovely character. Edit: I'm so shocked this got as much traction as it did, my views have stayed the same, editing to say that Saihara also lost Kaito, no matter how you view their relationship, it was still hard on him. Okay, I definitely love this song ! As I said in a previous comment, Mcki Robyns-P has perfectly, as usual, captured the essence and character of the character and I love it. We all love it. We see appearing in the music the most important people in Maki's development (of course Kaito, a bit of Shuichi, then Kokichi she often mentions because she hates him but paradoxically he is one of those who helped her the most too), and I liked the line "Beware the deceit the monsters hide; *we* tend to cover our tracks" 1: 04 where she includes herself in "the monsters" then it turns into "*they* tend to cover their tracks" at 3:07 when Kaito dies, because she realizes that the real bad guys are not her, the ultimate assassin, but the Danganronpa Team. Then the fact that at the end she uses the same line but replacing the "we" by "they" because thanks to this experience she realized that she was not a monster at all, it's great. The Maki roll has evolved so much. And also the "It's been a while since I wholeheartedly wanted..." part shows that before entering this game, she was definitely alone and it's only in this game that a bit of feeling came back. Then was crushed at 2:43. I like this part which shows that Maki finally managed to trust Kaito and believe that there was still hope... before she saw her jacket sticking out of the press and understood that the hope she had acquired only hurt her... (Btw I love the part at 2:24 even though all the song is good) What I admire about Mcki Robyns-P's Danganronpa music series is that the instrumentals are never repetitive, there's a lot of diversity between all the music and it's fantastic. I’ve always wondered what would’ve happened to both Shuichi and Maki if it weren’t for Kaito. I feel like there’s a good chance they probably wouldn’t be as close as they were. And for the record, I think at least one of them would’ve died without Kaito. This is just a summary of what I’m gonna say in more detail later, just in case you don’t wanna read it all. So basically, I think that the outcome of v3 would’ve been drastically different if it weren’t for Kaito. Shuichi would probably stay in sorrow and weep about Kaede, which would take a toll on his mental health which could possibly lead to hallucinations (If you know yttd you’d probably know more about this) and he would refrain from doing anything during class trial’s, and unless his classmates actually are able to figure stuff out, they’re dead. It was stated by the others before trial 4 began just how much Shuichi has helped them through the trials and how much they rely on him. If Kaito never confronted him, we would stay afraid of the truth and would turn his gaze away from it, meaning he doesn’t get any character development. It would also increase the chance of his classmates getting the verdict wrong and the killing game ending. And as for Maki, Kaito is literally the man she fell in love with, he helped her feel something again, he helped her feel as though she’s something else instead of just a cold blooded murderer. She felt comfortable enough to tell her story and feel as though she would be be put down or invalidated because of it. Kaito is the one that helped Maki get back on her feet. Without him, Maki’s attitude and feelings would stay the same and she would not get any character development. During chapter 5, Maki might not have cared enough to actually break in to the hangar to stop Kokichi from killing Kaito earlier then what everyone else discussed. Even if she did, she probably wouldn’t be affected as much if she was the one who ended up killing Kaito, or at least that’s what she thinks she’s doing. In fact, I think she would think that it was bound to happen, it was bound for her to end up killing someone again. Kaito is the one keeping these 2 on his shoulders and pushing them through the killing game. Without him, there’s a good chance v3’s outcome would’ve changed drastically. Shuichi wouldn’t be useful during trials, which could end up in everyone’s demise, and Maki would be seen as noting more than a murderer in most eyes, Kaito was probably her motive for a lot of things. Of course, Kaito isn’t the only person who could change the outcome of v3 entirely based on whether they were there or not. In fact, everyone plays a big role in how the killing game turns out. This one and a couple others in particular just got me thinking. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk. 😃👍

It’s a small detail but it’s in character to her attitude changing throughout the game as represented in this song by the switch from we/our to they/their
