Taron in my opinion pronounced it better (since he does speak Welsh and spent his childhood there) although Luke definitely won the audience's heart more since he was the underdog here (as this was probably the first time he pronounced it in TV; his interview with Conan being the second) while Taron's had to deal with that question in most of his interviews. Luke's attempt was pretty good too (given how tough it can be for non-Welsh speakers to pronounce it), although he pronounced it better in the interview with Conan.

Tbh though, I usually get it wrong though because the way I memorised it was by what some of the individual parts of the word describe (I'm fluent Welsh), but the name itself abbreviated some of them to make it easier to say in one go. I think of it: Llanfair, pwllgwyngyll, gogerych, chwyndrobwll, llantysilio, yr ogof goch. But it's spelt and pronounced: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyndrobwyllllantysiliogogogoch Most people just refer to it as Llanfairpwllgwyngyll anyway because it's shorter and there are a few places called Llanfair in Wales so you have to specify which one you're on about.

@The505Guys I know this is a year old comment but essentially, if you can learn a 'foreign' language it will make it easier to learn more. My Niece and Nephew are tiny but go to a Welsh medium nursery school, parents are monoglot English speakers (as am I), they can't spell yet but flip to Cymraeg and English easily - I envy them.

A Welsh-speaker I know once told me that almost everyone who can speak Welsh can pronounce that particular town name, because in Welsh it is written exactly as it’s pronounced. It’s only if you don’t know Welsh that you find it baffling, apparently

It’s true-the city name is just a bunch of words shoved together to create one long word, so pronouncing it isn’t difficult because the individual words aren’t difficult. You just have to practice saying it faster and faster to sound impressive to non-Welsh-speakers. 😂
