Rare full band version of Raglan Road by the original Dubliners: Luke Kelly, Ronnie Drew, Ciaran Bourke, Barney McKenna and John Sheahan. From a live radio performance circa 1970.

Now i understand where the version performed by the high kings comes from, Lukes version will always be the best though

Many thanks, ElTurbo! What a fantastic rare gem! Such "new" recordings make us feel that Luke's with us and alive as he's always been! If you, or anyone, have other recordings of Luke, please share it. Thanks again. You made my day!

I wished Bobby lynch stayed with the group. He was awesome

They were called "The Dubliners" Not "Luke Kelly and the Dubliners". No disrespect to Luke Kelly.

You're right of course! I only added Luke's name to mark him as the vocalist, as Ronnie and Sean would later perform their own renditions of the song with the Dubliners.

I remember when Ciaran ran one of the little kiosks on the esplanade in Bray after he had left the group due to his illness,he used to stay in the Holiday inn hotel where I worked at the time,we had some great sessions after hours, and they would be even better when Ronnie would call in to see him, happy days never to be repeated.

I do not know I I like when I was a bit of a not clear behind them so basically what I’m saying I prefer when it sounds like it is coming from an old record player as you get that correctly signed behind it which makes it sound like the song has been around for centuries

The uploader don`t know anything about this track, because he has just stolen it. It used to sound much clearer than this. It`s nearly 20 years ago since we wanted to release a cd of Luke rarities, but nothing came out of it. Who would want to invest money on something that ends up on KZbin for free.

The uploader (that's me) traded another bootleg for this track nearly 20 years ago; he recently re-discovered it on an old HD that was gathering dust. I imagine this particular recording stems from the era where one would record tracks from the radio with a cassette player. If Luke Kelly's heirs or John Sheahan would want it taken down from KZbin, I would consider their request. Personally, after hearing this track again after so many years, I felt this beautiful rendition of Patrick Kavanagh's song deserved to be heard by the few who would appreciate it, and it would be selfish not to share. If Per Karsten Jappee feels this interferes with the plan he made nearly twenty years ago to make some money off of Luke's legacy, which nothing ever came of, and has resulted in nobody ever hearing many other rarities, even forty years after Luke's death, he has a different opinion and I respect that :) edit: To be clear, I am not making any money off of this video. I received a copyright claim before sharing that stated the Dubliners' record label owned the copyrights for this song, and any proceeds will go to them - just the same as Luke Kelly's 'The Performer' DVD which is also now up on the Dubliners' official KZbin channel.

@@ElTurbo We certainly have different opinions. My concerns are more in sympathy with the artists. I recently read that 150 artists has sent a letter to Boris J. asking him to chance the laws. And it`s certainly about money, what isn`t. It`s not right that anyone can just take your product and share it. I thought this was a good example of this. Me and some friends had collected for years, and nearly 20 years ago we helped put together The Performer dvd. The production cost is estimated to 150 000 Euro. Just after it was released it was put up on KZbin, and they must have lost a lot of money. We had collected rare songs with Luke and had hoped we also could get a cd release. We brought a cd with examples to meetings in Dublin with Luke`s brothers, and John`s son. Then the tracks, like this one, went on KZbin. So who would invest money to make something that is for free on KZbin. Sheahan lost interest, And since then it`s been quiet those 20 years. Everything we collected are kept in an archive the Sheahans have.

Jesus Christ! Wind your neck in. Thank you for uploading, I love this song and look for all versions of it. So are you going to find Patrick Cavanaghs family and give him royalties for them using his poem? Thankfully it has been put on KZbin gives us, myself included a chance to hear it whereas otherwise we mightn't have got the chance. Alot of us don't have the cash to spend on a luxury such as music.
