So many 'pop' bands always had this one recognizable vocalist!/instrumentalist! I was born in '67 (and not in any English-speaking country), and my English teacher actually loaned me his collection of various Irish+ music! During the very, VERY, many years later, I've learned to recognize that the Dubliners were such a great band because they had so many talented players and singers! God bless Ronnie, though!

Been a fan of The Dubs since early 1970's, still holding a lot of their LP's, lost only "Plain and Simple" which someone borrowed and never returned but the record player has packed up since long ago. After joining the Merchant Navy recorded their music on cassette's but the tape decks on various ships have chewed these into spaghetti and lost touch over the years. After retirement found you guys back here on You Tube recently only saddened to learn that most of you have passed away. Luke I knew passed in 1984, followed by Ciaran then Ronny with his croaky voice, last also unequalled Barney Banjo. left only John Sheahan still alive well in his 80's but the group I remembered is no longer there. R.I.P. Dubliners; up till now your group as I have known it, has not been surpassed!

I'm sad to announce that we don't have these great icons around any longer. Ireland, Dublin has changed beyond recognition. It's so sad to see the changes and the people changing to. The last bastion of the real dubs is the flat complexes dotted around the city. We need revicel. To many none nationals chacing money, we are swamped with multi national companies . Back to the land, We need dirty old town back. ✌️☘️

Everyone else calls Luke by his first name , as his name respects ...except Phil Coulter who kept calling him Kelly like he was beneath him. Phil Coulter wrote some absolute classics but always came across as a complete snob.

Luke and Phil were very close friends, and Phil had nothing but massive respect and admiration for Luke's ability and talent as a singer, and that respect was mutual. Luke admired Phil as a songwriter, arranger and producer. There is a black and white clip of Luke discussing Phil and calling him a 'craftsman'. There's no way Phil would disrespect him in life or death. It's not unusual for friends to communicate with each other in a certain way, the way best friends can have strange nicknames for each other which can sometimes sound rude or disrespectful. Whether he's a snob or not, I don't know, but he would certainly have no bad intentions towards Luke.
