Competing in his final PSAC Championships, IUP senior swimmer Luke Mikesell went out in style.
Mikesell won a pair of individual titles for the Crimson Hawks, and he was named the Most Outstanding Male Swimmer at the conclusion of the conference meet.
A long-distance specialist, he won the 200-yard freestyle rather easily for his first title of the meet on Thursday. He beat the closest competitor by nearly two seconds with a time of 1 minute, 37.56 seconds.
The next day, he did one better. He won the 500 free with a time of 4:24.65 on Friday, breaking both the IUP school record and the meet record in the process. It was his third career conference championship in the 500 free.
In his decorated career, he has claimed six individual PSAC titles - three in the 500 free, two in the 1000 free and one in the 200 free.
Mikesell also helped the Crimson Hawks’ 800 free relay team earn a third-place finish and all-conference status. The top three finishers in each event earn all-conference honors. In his career, he’s earned 12 all-conference finishes.
