I think the idea of there being a "technique" to shimming goes out the window once you actually learn how to shim gearboxes. There are objective things to look out for while doing it, but for the most part, you just do it by feel and sound.

It works for him but only because he’s so experienced. There are much more scientific ways to shim that yield very good results, even for beginners. I’m not saying his way is wrong, but it sure as hell isn’t how I do it.

Dude I was bit by a cat on my pinky finger around new years and didn't think it was that bad......boy was I wrong....so so wrong. I ended up in er with 2 iVs in my arm giving me round the clock antibiotics. They said I could have got blood poisoning if I hadn't came in. Was in the hospital for 3 days on iVs and have to visit a surgeon to have the abscess in my finger drained. What a great way to start 2021 off. Hope you get your hand seen soon. LCT's are loud because they fucking put 3mm diameter axle bevel gears and pair that with a 2.5mm bearing.

i've also had the pleasure to shim the bevel up cause i bought the shittiest pistol grip ( element) for my m4 and the motor gripped even at 0 height. i had to disassemle the gun 3 times and putting spacers between the pistol grip and the gb to make it work.

I've found motors that have 2mm difference in total height, so another (shorter) motor can sometimes solve the same issue.

Oi mate! I’d LOVE to see get a hold of the G&G SSG1 to see your view and take on it!... quite interesting looking with an external barrel kit that integrates seamlessly with a tracer unit, and a blade trigger kit available.. stock seems a bit of a wobble point to me, but the new mid-cap mags it comes with are apparently awesome! I’d love to hear what you have to say about it, whether or not it’s a ripoff or what.. Seems to be marketed at mid/high level players who don’t mode spending extra cash on additional aftermarket parts to deck it out, but the base model doesn’t seem incredibly overpriced!.. that is, unless you look inside and say it’s wank lol Please let me know! (Or do a video..?) Thanks!

I hyper extended my elbow and broke something during the beginning of rona, I also took the 'no Dr option'... took a few months but it's normalish now 😂. Just keep it clean, it will heal on its own as long as you can avoid infection.

The other 2 ok but tight, correctly pressed shs bush but the middle like 0.25mm max gen 9 gearbox type and will expect the cast to wear faster, but know i got a shs middle not off much use or need to file bush or top part of the gear if fitting???.

@@MrLookslikelink Nope. The top position on a Kalashnikov is safe, middle is full auto, and bottom is semi auto. The reason for this is that when a solder is carrying his rifle on safe and is out on patrol/guard duty/whatever and engages hostiles, when he flips the selector from safe to fire in a massive panic he ends up on semi rather than full. They want this so that he doesn't end up wasting all of his ammunition in a panic by mag dumping uncontrollably, it forces him to have controllable recoil and to line up his shots. If he is clear headed, he will know to swap it either back to full or to full in the first place, and being clear headed, is more likely to use his weapon effectively.

I start like in this video, but I shim all three gears's bottom first, make sure they have proper relief between them, and then just fill up the top until they have no movement or very minor, depending on if the last 0.10 fits in there or not. I tried bevel shimming (match motor pinion and bevel so motor pinion sits fully onto the gear) for a while, but it's terribly tedious and it doesn't really give better results than starting with the spur gear. The only thing that I like about it is the fact that you need an inspection window at bevel gear's height, so you can see how the motor and bevel match, and that's excellent to check for motor height and bevel freedom of movement, both in v2 and v3 boxes. That also means that in gearboxes that don't have that inspection window, you have to Dremel it...

Is a V3 gearbox easier to shim the pinion to bevel because the motor is being held central in the cage... I feel a video on the process you use to get pinion to bevel in a V2 would be very helpful to alot of people.

You just saw all of it - that's what I do. You can do the same with any gearbox.... you either get it or you don't. There is no video that can be made on the process that will show you unless viewing holes are drilled in a gearbox casing. You can take a v2 gearbox & slide the motor in & see if it's laying perfectly up or down... There is no definitive correct way.

He did show how in one video, I'd tell you which but i Have no idea which in particular as I went through and binged all of his videos in the last year and a half or so within the last week. The technique is to take off the selector plate, bend it inwards just slightly, then put it back on, as just screwing it in tighter does nothing but strip out the hole. In terms of M4 platforms, I believe he had an explanation for it that involved shims, but I can't remember for sure. M4 selectors were only touched on briefly a couple of times.
