@@lukeneptune3820 That's good news. 🖒🖒 ☺ Yes, I'm doing fine, thanks. Over the last 10yrs or so, I've naturally become much more of an introvert...not antisocial...I just need my alone time. Also, spring is a bit late in arriving here, so I'm ok with the need to 'self-isolate'. My main worry is for my mom, who is 80yrs old & therefore extremely vulnrable to the CoVid-19 virus. So far, so good with her. Take care & ttyl ☺

I had to say that, after owning most of the newer DSI synths (Rev 2, Prophet 6 and OB-6), Luke's sound sets are what make this synth buying again. Unfortunately, even though I got ANOTHER REV 2 Desktop, I have had to sell them on but, after hearing these gems, I now have yet ANOTHER REV2 on the list... Out of them all, this is the one I truly miss.

Thanks Peter! Yeah it's such a great synth. I'm going to sell mine (which is an 8 voice rack) and get the 16 voice keyboard version.

Wow! I just finished listening to your well-organized & beautifully-mixed video, and I cannot adequately express how impressed I am blown away by the diverse set of truly emotive sounds you have created! These studio quality sounds are filled with lovely subtle nuances & I find them to be quite inspiring! When it comes to synthesizers, I have always been on the fence about the Prophet Rev.2. In general, I have found that the Rev.2 tends to produce sounds with a grittiness that is less pleasant than what one hears from the OB6 & P6. However, none of that applies to this soundset - a testament to your abundant skills in sound design. In fact, as is the case with many of the patches in your other Rev.2 soundsets, the sounds in this set have a smooth & creamy texture & they are never grating, excessively bright/metallic, or hard on the ears. This is especially the case with the pads & string sounds, as well as the arpeggiated parts....this is analogue synthesis at its best ! Furthermore, each of these sounds are focused enough to sit well in a mix, yet each one is sufficiently complex to shine on its own & strong enough to stand out when taking the lead. Fantastic work Luke! Congratulations!

Thanks a lot Derek. Those are really kind words and they mean a lot as i've spent quite a lot time working with the Rev2 on a bit of mission to prove that it can sound -as you say- smooth and creamy as apposed to 'harsh' which is a word i often see attributed to it. I've worked quite obsessively on my three soundsets for the Rev2 so words of appreciation are very welcome, thanks.

Patch 43- Distant Voices is one of my favs too. I think the reverb in the Rev2 is superb and really blends nicely with that sort of sound.

The sick thing is a lot of these actually sound that much better double stacked on the 16 voice version than they do in this video! I think the Rev2 has shown itself to be a top level synthesizer thanks to its flexibility even though I think it's Oscs are a bit behind the OB6, P6 and maybe even the Prologue (which is beyond buggy). Loving your sounds!

Very nice Luke. So much better than the usual patches. I may have to trade in and invest in a Rev 2 just so I can buy these unless you can recreate for your old/my JX10. Hahaha.
@lukeneptune38205 жыл бұрын
Have you still got my old JX10? haha nice :D. I nearly sold my JX10 the other week. I put it on eBay and FB Marketplace and then i fired it up to make sure everything was working and after 30 mins of playing it (and reminding myself how amazing it can sound) i deleted the eBay listing and removed the post off Marketplace. I then went and bought a PG-800 off eBay. So i basically went from selling it to spending money on it all within an hour haha
@jonathanredman84975 жыл бұрын
Luke, Very much so. It has a few key bed issues so I regularly take it apart to fix. I also bought an MKS70 and PG800. I was very tempted by a Rev 2 and the idea of owning a Prophet 6 but due to economy I bought a Prologue which is very nice.

does that Rev2 have a delay start for the pitch LFO (vibrato)? much like the rolands from the 80s had? I love those swelled start LFOs from triggering the modulation 🤤
@feelmytool3 жыл бұрын
No it doesn’t but you can always assign the 3rd envelope to an LFO’s amount knob to get the same effect.

Luke I own several of your soundsets and I will eventually pick up a REV 2or summit; I really love the Loose Ends sound like on "slow down" & "hanging on strings" they used the JX-10 and JX-8p. Which of the two the Summit or the prophet REV 2 16 can achieve that "loose ends" sound the best? Or would you recommend any other synth?
@lukeneptune38204 жыл бұрын
I'd go with the Summit. The Summit can mimic Roland sounds really well. It has a very similar bottom end to my JX10, that warm, swelling quality. I actually made a few patches named after the JX10 and JX8P in my Vintage/Classic soundset for the Summit.

Wow! I love my Rev 2, but I was bummed that the factory presets were so hard to navigate and understand what they would sound like based on the names alone. I shall purchase this set if they work on the 8-voice

Hi, yes they work on the 8 voice. In fact what you are hearing in the demo is an 8 voice Rev2.

How important is aftertouch to these sounds? Thinking about the Rev2 module but my other synth controller doesn’t have AT.
@lukeneptune38204 жыл бұрын
Wooden Penny it’s not essential but it’s nice if you have it. I usually apply vibrato to the aftertouch, if you listen to the demo you should hear it on stuff like pads and brass.

is it possible to load these into a bank different bank other than U1?
@lukeneptune38205 жыл бұрын
If there is i don't know how i'm afraid. But i do send a step by step on how to back your patches. However what i tend to do myself is just move patches manually on the synth (old school style). It takes about 6 or 7 (albeit tedious) minutes to manually move one bank over to another.
@derekbaker32795 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin. Look-up "Soundtower" software. If they have a version for the Prophet Rev.2 (they probably do), then you'll be able to do what you asked about, or you can load one patch at a time, or you can rearrange all of the patches that are stored in your synth. The user interface is very good too. The software is not free, but I have never heard of/read about problems or complaints with Soundtower's programs. There may be free software out there that does a similar thing.
@kaiwetronic4 жыл бұрын
In less than 5 min. you can edit and load the entire bank in any bank slot you want... Open it in Midi-ox (or alike) and figure out witch byte is the bank number... usually one of the first bytes just before the patch number, and notice 00 means 1 in Hex fig, so write 01 if you want it to load in bank 2, and so on... You must change the same byte in every of the 128 string lines... using the arrows of the keyboard is easy to navigate fast and edit everything in a few minutes... Once edited, send the bank to your synth and save it (with a slight different name) before closing Midi-ox, so next time you won't have to do it again unless you'll need to store it in other bank than 1 or 2... Easy...

Also Wow! I've owned a Rev 2 close to two years now and have yet to hear anything of this caliber. Great stuff will def be purchasing. Is this going through extra gear or vsts to what were hearing on the video?
@lukeneptune38205 жыл бұрын
It's not going through any gear apart from a Silver Bullet pre amp into an Apogee Symphony mk2. In the box i just add a touch of limiting to prevent any clipping and a transparent compressor on the master buss to level the volume out. None of those things change the sound in any significant way, they just make everything a bit louder so what you hear is what you get.
@JakBangHo4 жыл бұрын
This is the only rev2 video that actually makes this thing sound good. Are you using compressors or something? Any outboard effects?
@lukeneptune38204 жыл бұрын
Fever Drift no outboard effects and just a bit of transparent compression in Logic Pro X to level everything out a bit :)
@Mattieval4 жыл бұрын
I do like the Rev 2, but I can't help but think that similar sounding patches would just sound better on the Summit.
@derekbaker32794 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt. If you do try to replicate these patches on the Summit, please post them on YT & share the link . I'd love to hear them, ideally more than just a couple. Assuming that you can get the Summit to do a reasonable job of doing synthesis in the same manner the Rev2, have a hunch that the results will be that the Rev2 patches & the Summit patches (inspired by Luke's Rev2 patches), will both sound great, but have differences that appeal to different tastes more than any other factor. ☺ After that, I'll challenge you to do the same with the three other soundsets that Luke created for the Prophet Rev2. ☺
