PPTP works at Layer 2

PPTP also works at the session layer to create the connection itself, to create the end to end application connection. The difference between the session layer and the transport layer is that for the session layer, the connection is established between applications. For the transport layer, the connection is established between actual physical computers. My reference for PPTP is the Shon Harris book 8th Edition. On the exam, I'd most likely associate PPTP with layer 2, unless the context of the exam is signaling the session layer. OSI Model is also just a model, it's not a hardset definition of where protocols should belong. I know it can be confusing, but in the end it all depends on the context of the question during the actual exam.
