Hi Luke, great video and explanation of a remedy for cutting off the rear ac for the E-series Ford vans! It looks like this method works for you and is real quick and easy! I will say, it appears your van's rear ac system may be an aftermarket addon. I'm not exactly sure but the placement of the bracket that held the original line in place seems to indicate, as well as the crimps on the rear line pieces you're disconnecting appear different than the factory crimp on the front line... What a bonus for you and others that may be set up like this! However, after watching your video our dev department is going to take a closer look at some of 90's years of these vans. We haven't run into this set up yet. Maybe we can add a little disclaimer on our site to point people to check this front setup before ordering!? I do want to add a perspective from a Manufacturer of Rear AC Block Kits. What we discovered in our area (Michigan, as automotive technicians) was salt from the roads having a corrosive effect on the hard aluminum lines the OEM car manufacturers had running under the vehicles. We were servicing vehicles locally with block offs and rear line replacement options. Prior to exact fit block off fittings, people had an option of "cutting the fitting" from the lines from the front system and putting a compression cap fitting on to "seal off the rear". This method wasn't for everyone. People opting for this would later learn they had to now replace the entire system's lines when they wanted the full system up and running. From these discoveries a company was born! Our design method was always to give an "option" to block your rear system out so you can use the front while retaining the integrity of all the "front AC system's lines". Our Rear AC Block Off option isn't for everyone but it does serve a gap in the market, people really love our products and I think we're serving! Again great video!

Yes I think it may be an aftermarket add on now that I think of it. The current van the church has is a 2009 model and it is the same setup. Maybe they order them that way? I didn't have the option of reusing the rear ac lines, which I would have if I could. Someone vandalized it by cutting a piece of the rubber line out and used it for a siphoning hose to steal the gas from the van. Sounds like your product is a good option. Keep up the good work.

Yes, I couldn't find anything about doing it this way. I'm sure the manufacturers of those parts know it should be this easy but they won't tell you that lol.

I absolutely recommend this fix. I bought the kit and had it installed on my 05 E150 van, after my rear line got a leak. I had a problem finding a mechanic to do the job but I kept trying and finally found Taos Garage in Taos, NM and for $312 they fixed it. Ahhhh, love that cold AC!

That is a nice and easy fix there Luke . Some people like to over complicated things.and making fancy overpriced thinks you don't really need.

Thanks! The manufacturers of the block off kits probably won't like this video lol.

I don't have a need for this at the moment but, it's a nice tip to tuck away for the future. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, never know. It may work for other types of vehicles with rear ac too. Thanks for watching!

@@lukeFugate Well, I was about to try it on my van, and both my E-350's 2003, and 2005 do not have the pipe configuration you have. Damn, no release coupled lines up front or in either location, passenger or driver side. Onto plan B. Got to get air up front working at least in the 05.

Awesome video Luke! I would have never thought of that. I hope you don't have any leaks. Going to need that a/c pretty quick.
@lukeFugate2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I just was too cheap to spend the $70 lol. Save that for a half tank of gas. I should be able to check for leaks when pulling the vacuum on it. One good part about charging it back up with propane is if it leaks out it isn't as expensive to replace.

Great vid but Y use propane when r134a is so cheap?
@lukeFugate Жыл бұрын
Propane is much cheaper and if it leaks out, it's no big deal. I have used Propane to test unfamiliar systems like this one. After this one worked for 6 months I put r134a in it.

hey sir , so i got a 93 ford e150 i was replacing the ac compressor but when i pulled out the old one there was no lines in. i was looking more in depth and the only thing i see is a suction and discharge line that i don’t know if it should be there but as far as i’ve looked there no lines visible that go into the ac compressor. and ideas or something i should know ?

This might work on my 2004 Econoline E350. Will the vehicle run while I attempt this? I can Life without ac for a few days but I need a otherwise functioning van
@TheCanadianBubba2 жыл бұрын
Easy ! I wouldn't even bother with getting the lines to the back out... LOL ! Interesting to hear that propane works to charge the system, isn't there an oil in there as well ? Best days to you and yours Luke 👍
@lukeFugate2 жыл бұрын
Propane does work. It gets really cold and is cheap, so if there is a leak there's not much to lose. I have a couple of cans of AC oil to add as well. Yeah, I guess the old lines aren't hurting anything lol.

Awesome...did you mean propane as refrigerant? You need to make a video about that
@lukeFugate2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it will work as refrigerant. It is actually considered R-290 and is a cheaper, and more environmentally friendly option. I will make a video when I charge it.

Luke can you charge an R-12 system with propane? My 87 K5 is a R-12 compressor
@lukeFugate2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it will work with propane. Buster, the camper van I had was R-12 and it had a slow leak that would last for the summer and run out. I charged it up with propane every year. I could charge it up for less than $5 compared to around $40-$45 in Freon. I think it got colder than with Freon too.

does not work on some year/model combos, i have a 2003 E-350 XLT Super Duty extended with the Triton V10. the refrigerant lines under the hood on mine are not quick disconnect, the lines are permanently crimped onto their T-fittings. only way on my van seems to be the disconnect point under the brake booster. oh well, thats what i get for hoping that I'd ever buy the easy model of anything lol
