Back in like 2007, Rocksteady was brought on to make a movie tie in game for The Dark Knight. But they managed to convince WB to give them an extra year to create something original, and thus one of the best superhero games ever made was born. Now WB breathed down Rocksteady’s neck the entire time they were making something they didn’t wanna develop in the first place. It’s honestly just sad.

Several things wrong with this video: - Concord is not the shortest game to exist, the day before lasted 4 days and the culling II 8. - Also for Concord, physical copies exist and were sold, so Sony did make some money back, basically nothing but something. - SSKTJL didn't lose WB 200million, as a whole WBD lost that money not just WB gaming, how much money did the game lost? Who knows but the info is misinterpreted. Also this is supposed to be the most dissapointing games of the year, but I don't think Luke knows what the word "dissapointing" means. There wasn't excitement and hype for any of these games.
@oneshotwolve32462 күн бұрын
Those are incredibly semantical points. Hundreds of millions of dollars were poured into these games (not hyperbole) and some were in development for over half a decade and yet they disappointed both the people who played it and the developers who made it but I guess it's not disappointing because... you expected it to be bad? That's not how disappointment works, take any sports team that sucks and you'll expect them to barely if ever win because their roster sucks but when they actually don't win any games you'll still say "What a disappointing season" even if you knew months ahead of time you weren't gonna be winning.
@JRRR922 күн бұрын
@oneshotwolve3246 That's literally what dissapointing means though. If you don't have expectations, you can't be dissapointed. Read a diccionary.
@oneshotwolve32462 күн бұрын
@@JRRR92 Oh how convenient you directly omitted the dictionary definition and also didn't add it to your comment because you needed it to fit your needs.(lol) Hope is synonymous with disappointment matter of fact it's IN the dictionary definition. People hoped these games would perform well and rake in millions but unfortunately they did neither. Ah but if you find a better definition of disappointment in your "diccionary" do make sure to quote it to me would love to be proven wrong.

To me, the biggest disappointment here was Shattered Space. But that's because I didn't expect any of the other nominees to be good, whereas Shattered Space actually looked interesting and was focusing on the faction I wanted to know more about. I like Starfield and the updates it had received prior to the dlc really heightened my expectations for it + Bethesda games usually have had good dlc that improve on the base game. Shattered Space wasn't that, which made it disappointing. I still haven't gotten myself to finish it, even though I am a fan of the base game. But when it comes to biggest failures of the year, the rest of the nominees definitely come before Shattered Space and Concord is absolutely the biggest failure of a game in 2024. Both subjectively and objectively.

Did not know Dustborn received EU money (only 150 000, tho). I knew it got Norwegian government grants and was developed in Norway, but Norway isn't a part of EU. So it's super odd that it got any monetary aid from European Union culture funds.

These disappointments aren't learning experiences for AAA devs and publishers. The reason I say this is, from all the public statements that I heard regarding these flops, I think a lot of leaders in this industry have their heads up their own asses. Instead of taking it on the chin, they double down and try to reason why they are not the problem and it's someone or something else that is at fault. Since they are so arrogant and egotistical, they will not take responsibility and think that maybe they are the problem. It's that entire meme with Principle Skinner on the Simpsons every time. Until they learn some basic humanity and be humble for once in their life, nothing will change.

What a lot of the developers either forgot or somehow don't know...not every game you make is meant for everyone. Games like mass effect has its own fan base. When you cater to who already supports you, you'll be better off than trying to cater to a broad audience that never was a fan to begin with.

Ya, Concord is pretty much the biggest flop in the history of the entertainment industry. The biggest movie flops of all time were over -$200M. But Concord lost at least 400M. It’s a truly historic disaster

We don't need to imagine what's going on in other studios in the wake of concord's disaster. We can see the delays, the cancellations, the studio shut down and reworking.

The cast of Dustborn looks around in disbelief. Scrapped thankyou-notes soaked in tears at their feet. This was supposed to be their night. 🤣

Let's hope the studios making corrections because of Concord don't overcorrect. They can point to the character designs or whatever, but they have to remember that the main thing that killed Concord was that it was a $40 game that should have been free-to-play.

I actually enjoyed the new Saints Row despite the obvious pandering and box checking. I put off playing the game due to all the negative feedback, but it still felt like Saints Row to me at least.

With Bethesda I think it mostly comes down to bloat, miscommunication and an unwillingness to change
@lewiswasrobbed84072 күн бұрын
you're kinda right, based on what former devs say it's the lack of adapting to a bigger team size that causes alot of issues. BGS is like a 400 person studio but still handles like a 100 person studio. BGS really need to improve and I hope they do a capcom by completely reorganising themselves for a year or 2, it'll set them up for a decade.
@Moth942 күн бұрын
@lewiswasrobbed8407 yeah you hit the nail on the head. This next bit is a bit generic but they need to move away from The Creation engine it's not doing them any favours

Ok, I admit that these are really, reallly! bad but Dragon Age The Veilguard at least should've got honorable mention. If this is about disappointment, I could've tell you that Skull and Bones will flop but DATV just made me sad. I wanted it to be good.

Concord is fascinating. Even if the character designs weren’t laughed off the internet, it’s a SLLOOOOOOWWW game that feels stiff and is a system hog too

the level of ego to want to be "represented" in a game is actually so petty IMHO, I've never played a game where I'm a non-human thinking "smh this ain't me bruv"

I haven't paid too much attention to the Concord situation but why the hell did they just delete the game from existence? Like even if it flopped, that flop was major news and for sure people would at least check out the game out of curiosity right? Any publicity is good publicity. It's so weird that they just yanked it out of existence within 2 weeks just because it didn't have millions of players straight away. My best guess is server maintenance costs but even then
