Rosie the shark - Her final journey to Crystal World

Rosie The Shark, who is a dead preserved 5 meter Great White shark that was sitting in an abandoned wildlife park in Australia. A few months ago I explored this park and then my video went viral leading to the re-homing of Rosie after vandals went in and tried to destroy her.
This has been such a great journey to follow and be apart of.

I live near Rosie's original location (Phillip Island), I remember seeing her back many years ago when the park was still running. I was scared shitless of it (I was a child)! I stood in front of her tank staring into her face, thinking: "This is the last image shark victims ever see." Regardless of how much I fear sharks, the disrespectful vandalism of her tank made me very angry, and I was very relieved that she's been saved! I intend to go visit her one day in her new home. Though, I recall Rosie being larger than that many years ago. Either the chemicals and decay shrunk her size, or maybe it's because I was a kid at the time - but she definitely looks smaller now than I remember.

THE REAL STORY: As great as this story is, Rosie had passed away before she was even put in the tank. She was rescued after being caught in a fishing net, but passed away from (I'm guessing) her wounds. Her body was then put into the tank you see in the video, for preservation. The park ended up closing, the owner had no where else to put a large tank with a deceased shark in it, so he was forced to just leave her there until better accommodations could be made. The guys (guy all in black at the end of the video and his friends) found her, filmed her and posted the video. Vandals watched the original video, figured out where the tank was located, they threw the garabage in anattempted to damage the remains while leaving the cover off, allowing the liquid inside to dehydrate. Rosie had only been out of the formaldehyde completely for about twenty-four hours at the time of this video. The wonderful gentleman that you hear speaking on the video then decided to give Rosie a new home. Though she did suffer and pass away from the actions of humans, it wasn't a cruel park owner or horrible kids, it was overfishing of the oceans.

Kimmy Kat she didnt die in the tank.. she was already dead a long time ago. People then took her for educational purpose and placed her in a tank in a zoo. The zoo owner couldnt run the place anymore and lost rights to own Rosie too.. so it had to be abandoned

If Australia can do this for a dead shark then Japan can definitely do this for Honey the dolphin who is still alive. I’m so glad that Rosie is going to have a new home. Edit: For those who don’t know. Honey is a dolphin that has been abandoned in Inubosaki Marine Park Aquarium in Japan after the owners had to close down the park due to lack of income and they had no money to remove the animals. Honey and 42 penguins along with hundreds of fish and reptiles have been abandoned there and are slowly deteriorating in health. A video shows that the animals are still being fed but it is unknown if that will continue as the owners must be paying someone to do this and we know that they are bankrupt.

Rosie's story is honestly really satisfying. How her body was able to (somewhat) stay in tact all these years is incredible. I'm also thankful how everyone was being respectful with her and not just dumping her in the middle of nowhere to rot, or just leaving her there in that tank to be disrespected by ignorant explorers and tourists. So happy Rosie was taken to her final resting place. Truly amazing!

When I first saw the video with Rosie being basically a shadow in a super murky and green looking stuff in her tank, it scared me a good bit because it just looked horrific. I'm already afraid of sharks but I think they are absolutely beautiful and fascinating creatures. It's so sad when places go under and just leave things behind like Rosie was left. I'm so glad she has a new home :) it wouldn't have been long before her tank cracked and all that formaldehyde and whatnot leaked out and poisoned the environment and left poor Rosie to rot away... But she's safe now :)

As someone who does this sorts of taxidermy and preservation; I'm praying she can be saved. It doesn't look great.. The initial solution they put her in ate away at her, and then all of the garbage people put in worsened it. I'm hoping they will use formalin rather than formaldehyde. I couldn't help but keep a smile on my face watching this. I'm just so exited that Rosie can finally be in a safer area and be taken care of and preserved better. I'd also like to let people know, she wasn't ever alive in the amusement park/wildlife center place. I read it online somewhere but I forget my source. But I know that is indeed true considering the tank size. And just, what type of human being would do such a thing to something so beautiful and living. They would've removed all the other animals and left a living shark? Rosie is honestly just such a bizarre, amazing, and enjoyable find for the public. Being able to see how well she stayed preserved after all these years in that tank is just outstanding. Screw those who threw all that trash at her into the tank. And the total punk who threw the chair. Thank you for this video, it gave a very great inside on what she looked like without all the murky water around her making is hard.

She is chemically fixed in formaldehyde. This chemical needs to remain sealed to be effective. Even in perfect conditions, it needs to be replaced every so often. She has deteriorated bc of this. Also in order to transport the remaining fluid needed draining due to weight. In order to remain in current condition she needs to be resubmerged in fixative.

Like another viewer commented, I had actually thought that Rosie was an abandoned LIVING shark. When I found out she was not living, it was difficult me to feel the emotional gravity of the situation of her state. I've been an animal lover my entire life because of my mom. Two months ago, my pet passed away and it has been the most earth shattering loss of my life. He was literally my best friend and the only light and happiness in my life. We spent every single moment together and fell asleep together and woke up together. I lost him in a horrible and tragic accident that I blame myself for and I will never get over it. I didn't want to live without him and every day I thought about how I really didn't have to if I didn't want to. I still can't function normally without him and I will forever be traumatized and destroyed over losing him. He was so beautiful and he had so many years ahead of him and he was robbed of that. I would have given my life if it meant saving his. We have buried all of our beloved pets in the backyard, but I just could not cope with putting him in the ground. He was so precious, beautiful, innocent, and loving. He was too special and important to me, to know that he was out there in the cold, while his tiny body was slowly breaking down. So, I did a bunch of research on how I could keep him around and intact. Prior to this incident, that would have NEVER crossed my mind and I always thought preserving animals was creepy and wrong. It wasn't until my love was suddenly cut so short with my best friend and my other half, that I realized why people preserve animals and pets. I still haven't quite figured out what I want to do with him, so for now he is in the freezer. I cry over him every single day and I miss him more than I have ever missed anything or anyone, but knowing he is still intact is somewhat of a comfort. I don't really know what the point of my story is, but I now understand your fight in saving Rosie. This journey is so incredible and amazing and we are so thankful for you and your heart. I will never understand how people could be so evil and cruel by vandalizing such a beautiful creature that can no longer fight for its legacy or honor. You, sir, are a gem and from all of us selfless and good hearted viewers, thank you.

There are taxidermist out there that you can look into or you can cremate your beloved and keep them close. That was my family did with our 16 yr old loved one. She was old and we couldn't bury her. So we cremated her and she has a beautiful urn and she stays with my dad, for now.

I’m so glad to see that Rosie’s remains have finally been protected and taken care of. It just excited me to see that boy running up to see her at 6:43, then running back again! Not that most kids aren’t enamored with sharks anyway, but his enthusiasm was particularly heartwarming. There’s something special about seeing that kind of reaction. I think it does Rosie girl a lot of justice now that kids like this will get the opportunity to see her, and hopefully for many, many years. I’m so so happy that she’s found a new home! ♥️🦈
