Yay, ya found the East Beach which is the drop down ladder in that hidden cave, as well as cog for boat.

Many of the high caves, especially the ones with a book, are found on edges of ore mining caves. Lots of torches and keep an eye at lit up areas at edges of ore caves.

The nice thing about crops in this game is the crops don't die while you are away in other biomes, or cave mining for 4 days straight. They just quit growing and pick back up when you get home to water. They also sit there and wait til they are harvested. Don't forget fertilizer for crops that need it. Made from the different lumber in different zones. The more you grow and harvest, the more new crops open up.
