I don't like anything in particular, because that's what we expected in L2023, and there's still a lot missing, Raytracing is still incomplete, and there are still a lot of bugs. We'll have to wait until Lumion 2025 for a product that's finally finalized, bug-free and fully functional. For my part, I've already switched to D5, which is a much more recent engine, modern and responsive to the latest technologies, and much more in tune with its users.

At this stage my biggest gripe is lack of high res, realistic 3D grass that can have lots of editing options such as weeds, mud, wear and tear etc etc

I think until they implement proxies so we can have a lot of assets without worrying about performance, or an AI integration, we won't have that.

@@NunoSilva3d for raytracing? But lumion already using LODs for all of its assets that allow for this performance in previous raster system. So raytracing also benefit from LODS if they didnt disable it for raytracing, and raytracing should work better because its not raster and raster is weaker at handling big scenes than raytracing in geeneral. so now it should handle heavy scenes better if there is LOD system without need for proxy because LODs prevent far objects to be traced with too much memory consumption.

I solved this problem to some extend by having three different surfaces with different materials stacked a few centimeters apart. One layer has the landscape material, one has the wild 3d grass and one has a bare soil material. The result is quite realistic. Definitely better than default landscape or 3d grass materials.

I've always liked overlaying sketch lines on Lumion renders. I hope they improved the sketch tool and a way to match a Sketchup view 1:1. Excellent run through, Nuno!

I know this video is about Lumion, but... im starting using D5 Render, and only for 2 weeks im already getting better results, its so smooth, and I'd like you can see almost the final work all the tim; rendering time it's absolute absurd between D5 to Lumion 2023, i know Lumion 2024 upgrade or fix the rendering times, but it feels that Lumion its just doing enough to sell a new version. Last year it was rather a raytracing 0.4 not 0.9 that Lumion has sold us. In current Lumion 2024 release notes, they say: "Over 2,000 more assets from Lumion's library can now be used in ray traced renders, including trees and plants, glass and translucent materials." Does this mean that not all trees will work with raytracing? How about the animated plants, characters, animated objects, water relfection of the characters, imported 3D vegetation and so on? It would be great if you expand your video with the cons of what is missing. Thank you in advance.

I believe an important feature missing from Lumion is real-time VR walkthroughs. While Lumion offers static VR renders, this isn't a true VR experience like the real-time walkthroughs that are becoming increasingly common in architectural firms. Lumion shouldn't rely on static renders as a substitute for a fully interactive VR experience.

not really a come back as D5 already had these features from their older versions so i'd say Lumion is quite on a slow pace D5 is always 5 steps ahead and D5 render released their 2.7 version now its 7 steps further than lumion in which it will take time for lumion to catch up again.

@@samwaters7318 D5 was step behind before too and it surpassed others, so it means its not about who is ahead currently its about catching up. By the way, its hard to compare d5 and lumion, one is realtime raytracing other is raytracing (also old real time raster), so their methods are fully different and D5 doesnt have full ray tracing. Lumion is better now for someone who want regular raytracing with many tree with best quality and asset options while, d5 is better for someone who prefer realtime raytracing with fast render times with less asset options.

I think only the landscape grass works well with raytracing. I think the 3D grass is still in development. Hmm I haven't tested yet in raster to compare the parallax interiors.

Yes, lumion skipped the middle poinst (1,5 and 2. point), so its hard to have interactive things. 1. Half realtimate approximated raster rendering where it is unable to walk in scene with all effects -> lumion has this 1.5.Fully realtime approximated raster rendering where we are able to walk in scene with all effects -> NO 2. Raster+ realtime raytracing where we are able to walk in scene with all effects plus more realism -> NO 3. Full raytracing -> unable to walk in scene fully with full quality, dependent on denoiser -> Lumion has this

Those were from Lumion library, but maybe it's missing the texture map for translucency. At this point, you can only set a color. But it's on their roadmap.
