I understand that the pigments used for the colour filter also make a significant difference. There are reports from filmmakers and photographers finding that certain brands and cameras take far more work, or can't quite render as desired.
@KimCruz15 жыл бұрын
yeah there's actually a lot of factors, even the way in which the pixels are arranged- Fuji for a while didn't use the bayer filter format which every other manufacturer did- the RGB pixels are arranged differently and that didn't always mix well with programs like lightroom etc... but basically when it's about cameras that 'take far more work', it's usually with compressed formats- when it comes to RAW, colors are usually pretty uniform!

Is it good using Olympus 17mm f1.8 on gx9? How about lumix 20mm II?
@KimCruz13 жыл бұрын
Oh absolutely they fit that camera very well. The 20mm ii is really small I miss that about that lens (I've sold it), but the 17mm is much faster focusing and also does auto focus continuous. I would say that the differences of using these lenses on rhe gx9 and on any camera are summarized well here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6W2q2iXqdermZo

Umm not sure if anyone mentioned this already but different manufacturers produce different colors even in RAW. A Raw file between a Nikon and Panasonic RAW files are very different and will need to be edited depending the color science of the sensor/processor.

As far as I know It's not that different in Raw but a lot kore in jpeg certainly. Gerald undone did a great video comparing picture profiles in Sony raw files.. the differences aren't as much as JPEG tho!

Hey Kim, I know you’re a Panasonic guy. Have a G7. Due to it’s weight, seems impossible to find a gimbal that is compatible. Do you know of one or have any suggestions? Thanks!
@KimCruz15 жыл бұрын
hey man unfortunately I don't know of any new gimbals that support it, but I use an old Zhiyun Crane V2!
@northontheone-mobiledetail86555 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. And how does the Crane 2 work with the G7? Compatible? Do you like it?
@KimCruz15 жыл бұрын
@@northontheone-mobiledetail8655 no worries man, yeah it's an ok gimbal... In my experience, there are 2 broad categories of gimbals, the older gen (Crane V2 and contemporaries) and newer gen (anything after the Ronin S). The V2 is definitely an older gen gimbal, it won't have features that new gimbals have i.e. endless roll, faster pans, selectable pan speeds (some gimbals let you press a button and when you whip the gimbal left and right and the camera moves almost instantly- think Ronin S and later generation gimbals). Also, these days it seems like gimbals don't glitch as much as the V2- for example, you'll pan to the ceiling and suddenly- the gimbal dies lol... Don't worry, you can just turn it back on again. But on to the positives- it's a solid gimbal and does the job. If you're looking at big movements i.e. tracking shots of subjects walking- this will do it! It won't have the bells and whistles of new gimbals- but I'll be honest, I haven't missed anything crucial when the gimbal has crapped out on me. This may be different for you if you have really technical shots in settings where you can't repeat the shot, but often times, the technical shots are done on static objects anyway. Also, I just checked- $330 on amazon, (I got it for $500+)... that's not bad at all! However, I would encourage you to check out other gimbals, off the top of my head, from brannds like Feiyu (sorry don't know the models), because these guys were seen as a knock off brand before, but it seems like the products are ok now and they were always more affordable than zhiyun. On the whole, don't be afraid to get an older gen gimbal, including the V2- just know they won't be as fancy as newer gen gimbals but will get the job done. Last thing, gimbals are useful, but were also definitely a trend, similar to drones. It doesn't mean people don't use them anymore, but I think people have seen it's limits and aren't as excited about them anymore. You can kinda see the tech/video community has moved away from doing a ton of reviews on them because ultimately, you don't always need them, they can be a hassle to use, and old and new gen gimbal differences aren't mind blowingly different. My suggestion- get a gimbal like the V2 on the cheap, and save your money for lights lenses etc. Hope this helps!

im upgrading from iphone filming. should i get the lumix g7. also idk why but i havent subbed after i used to watch ur vids. please come back
@KimCruz15 жыл бұрын
dude... eerie coincidence I'm actually making a video related to this topic and i actually AM coming back lol!! but to your question, man it really depends on what you want to do- filmaking is huge! but as a general guideline, I know the G7 looks like a sweet deal, but in 2019, i'd steer you away from that one for now. if you're just getting into all of this, i would look at these cameras: Sony A6100, Canon M6ii and the G85. The sony is a great overall package- mic jack, good video autofocus, probably best image quality of the bunch. cons- not as many lenses as M43 and the form factor and usability is hit or miss- some people like it, some people hate it. Canon m6ii- also good package, small, and good video AF. If you're looking into shooting vlogs and generally recording yourself in the easiest way possible, go with this one or the Sony. Trust me, you'll thank me later. cons- the lens lineup is thin, like really thin and yes you can get an adapter for canon dslr lenses, but that's extra costs and weight etc. Lumix G85- the most affordable of the bunch, gives you the most options for lenses but also has worse low light performance compared to the other two. The trump card here is that IBIS (image stabilization on the sensor). when you're adapting lenses (you can use vintage glass, or other brands like canon with an adaptor) this is HUGE. scratch that, even just as a feature, this is huge for video. I have a gimbal, but since I got the G85, I hardly use it. I only use it for large movements i.e. walking down the aisle at a wedding, following a subject when i want the shot to be super super smooth etc. Otherwise, any small movements on set, i'm using the camera by itself. The main downside- terrible video AF. you cannot use video AF on this camera, you pretty much have to use manual focus, or pre set your focus before you record using AF, and then flip it manual focus. This is fine if you're behind the camera, harder if you're in front of it (although you can use the app to set focus which is what i do). Overall it's actually simple- go with Canon and sony if you prioritize video AF- if you're shooting yourself, this is a great option but remember you dont have sensor stabilization in either of these cameras, so you might have to invest in a steadycam or gimbal if you're doing client jobs. more weight, more costs. If you're more behind the camera, or you have the patience for using manual focus, or you do lots of handheld work- the G85 is your camera. At this point, the G7 may be cheaper than the rest, but then you're stuck with a camera that doesn't have good video AF, and doesn't have IBIS- which is fine if you're mostly doing youtube shots on a tripod. but trust me on this, in 2019, if you're even thinking about going handheld, IBIS my man, IBIS- 90% of the time, this is what you'll need and want over a gimbal. if this is your first camera, it's best to have it all in one package that can do most of it. i just landed and it's late so i hope this made sense and it's useful!

Ey Kim, I know that you're not shooting with your G7 anymore but do you still remember your profiles when shooting videos with it? I really love the lumix line but when it comes to color, I think they are way behind Sony and Canon. G7 users seem pretty divided when it comes to picture profile

Nah, when you shoot raw all the development programs apply some specific parameters to your photo. Those parameters are coded in the raw file and everything being equal you can easily tell two raw files apart even after processing. Currently I'm using Panasonic, Olympus, Canon and Nikon cameras and I can easily tell their raw files apart.
@A1Bokeh3 жыл бұрын
Is olympus better for photo than panasonic
@borispradel10373 жыл бұрын
@@A1Bokeh I think Olympus has better jpg colors, but I wouldn't recommend any of them now, if you are into photography (more than video) a mid-range Fujifilm will give you better jpgs, better raw files, better colors, and a similar size. If you're more into video, well Panasonic is a better option than Olympus, but now Sony and Canon are very good too. I wouldn't recommend micro-four thirds any more, with APC-s and Full Frame sensors getting chaper and lighter these days.

Color science is a useless buzzword. I don't care about it. As far as I am concerned, it's all subjective and all I care about is that I personally like what I end up with. Color science complaints are like counting all of the Cheerios in your cereal bowl and getting annoyed because they didn't come out to a prime number. I have spent so much time and effort trying to get people to stop shooting flat and log footage on 8-bit cameras because it is guaranteed to hurt the footage far beyond any minor changes in colors coming from a different camera model. Until people stop shooting flat and log inappropriately, I think color reproduction in modern cameras is not a significant concern.
@JodyBruchon5 жыл бұрын
@Claudiu Ardelean oh ho ho, you'll love my videos about shooting flat then ;-) I am pretty aggressive about trying to get people to stop doing it. It is a niche tool that requires expensive gear, lots of knowledge and experience, and a more complex and slow workflow to use properly. The people who should be doing it aren't watching KZbin camera videos. Thanks for telling everyone about your experience.
