But if I look at this camera from the perspective of the target market (TikTokkers etc), I see a discrepancy between what would be most useful to them and what the S9 is: 1. Compact body and lenses - It’s a full frame camera. It can only get as small as the mount. Lenses likewise (and costly). Yes, they released it with the pancake 26mm f8. But that lens isn’t really wide enough for vlogging and the fixed f8 basically defeats the point of the full frame body in an age where people are after shallow depth of field to the point where phones are desperately trying to emulate it. 2. Real time lut is way too convoluted for the average user. You need to be aware of what profile you’re in, because the luts aren’t universally applicable. And I bet most of the target market have never heard of the term LUT. 3. Price tag is too high. I think most of the target market will probably pick a high end phone over the S9 if they have to choose. I think 1k would be a better price point. 4. The more savvy user would want a headphone port. 5. They need good autofocus. Releasing it with a manual only lens doesn’t make any sense to me This should’ve been a m43 camera imo. A G100m2. Super compact (lenses too), affordable, great stabilization, headphone port etc.

Absolutely love this video! Your clear and detailed explanation is fantastic, and I really appreciate all the hard work you put into it. However, not having a viewfinder and a headphone jack is such a deal breaker for me. Especially considering you can find the Sony A6400 at the same price, used and in excellent condition. I love it but, the fact that it doesn't have a view finder and a headphone jack... Is such a deal breaker. Giving the fact that the s5ii can be found at the same price used and good as new

I agree, I said the same thing for a few hundred more the S5II is a better buy with no limitations. Shame they made these odd choices just to keep the form factor smaller.

You're first person I seen with a larger lens on there PLUS the ND filter lol. That 26mm they were giving everybody is just...not gonna cut, for so many reasons. Love the look it gives the camera tho, on the outside lol.

7:18 Ahhhh so it does have a Mic Port. I was getting a bit worried since this is tailored for content creators and audio is just as important and the built in mics are typically horrible and nothing was mentioned or shown by Lumix so I’m glad that you at least showed that it has one 🔥

thats interesting that Lumix chose not only a manual lens (I think manual lenses can be very fun), but I wonder why they chose a constant aperture of F8? not even like 5.6 or f4...F8? Great video btw, the color grading on this video is top notch

As a solo content creator who make vlog and storytelling video by myself, there is not a single time that I record a clip over 3mn so I don't mind the 10mn record limit at all 😁

I initially got the red camera until I saw the black one and just fell in love. The black is just sleek and reminds me a lot of a LEICA so I ended up swapping it.

I agree but I think the "content creator" they're targeting are short form content creators. It's a shame because the camera is really good but I can also understand there's no fan so that can be a problem in areas where it's really hot.

that is the weirdest thing, is that it makes big compromises that kind of ruin it for video IMO... - 50% crop in slow mo - no audio monitoring - 10 min record limit oh, ok they wanted to lean more into the photography side of things...nope - No EVF - No Flash (even external, cold shoe only) - No mechanical shutter So who is it for? It's too niche to be a beginner camera, IMO, and its not cheap enough to where it wouldn't just make more sense to get the S5II. Especially if they add the LUT features to their other cameras, that is basically the one cool thing it can do that others can't. I personally think this is a professional's 3rd camera that they get instead of a X100VI. That is the demographic. If I am only going to get one camera, for a hybrid do it all camera, S5II, for something compact and travel friendly, ZV-E1, for the best image quality and most "cinematic" footage, BMCC 6k (I think it was recently discounted to be almost the same price as this).

In the content creation world there are different level of content creator. I feel most of the con might be an issue for the intermediate or pro content creators. The be doing shore videos, reels, TikTok might not need more than 15 minutes recording time. A lot of content creator of all level are using those latest remote mic with 32bit recording, so not having a headphone jack might not really be an issue

Think you missed the biggest downside---price! Why $1,500 for a crippled camera?? I can get an s5II for less on the used market or amazon warehouse. You can get a used fx 30 for close to the same price both would be a superior content creation camera. Armando I also think you could do a better job of disclosing you were flown to Japan and given the camera in your review. You had a throw away line deep in your review but those really should be disclosed upfront. Think the the zv-e10 or the r-50 are better "creator cameras on a budget" and for $1,500 you have much better choices than this camera.

LOL. as i said i was just passing bye, had a camera with me to shoot stills at the Lake, saw them practicing, shot a few songs. inside DARK like night, against super bright openings ....so ISO way up, and as well I did not have my normal pro audio set up with me (I was as i said into "stills" mode that day),, so first time I took audio from camera mic (not normally good) and boosted it in post. So audio? okay but not my usual decent quality. so no Potato, but difficult conditions. It looks good on my 32 inch 4K monitor, clean, good color, and the audio? well boosted in post, but of course not great. Hey don't watch if you think it sucks. I aint holding a gun to your head. These folks have NO video examples of what they do. I was just doing it to help them out as I do a LOT of local musicians. I looked your site man. It ain't no Academy Award winner. Just reviews of cameras. Gez. go out and shoot some real content man.

I just really dislike that lens so much even withe a fixed F8 it doesnt even have Threads so we can put an ND filter on it. Even if it was meant for the camera to be used in auto exposure some people would like to want to put a diffusion filter or any kind of filter on it. Im sure maybe there will be a third party option like theybe done with the ZV line but all in all the lens along eith the camera almost feels like a beta test camera. A project that was close to being done and then they just sent it off.

it would be an amazing camera for 500 usd. Otherwise you should take a look at used market for a7c or a7iii or R6. (there is no affiliate link for used buys so you wont get this advice form any "respected " youtuber).

Panasonic GH5 years ahead set the standard for many of Sony and Canon’s credited innovations… LUMIX puts it out first, Sony & Canon catches up and brags leadership. LUMIX drops a Camera at $1500 with a recording limit due to compactness… Sony & Canon drops Cameras as $2500 that overheat 😂. Man, come on… just say you are not going to buy it, but I assure you Sony will have some form of this LUT platform in the near future.

@@moneyboys2010 shutter angel isn’t innovation is a software update. It doesn’t matter who puts it out. Edison invented lamp doesn’t mean he can create Philips light. Lumix cant catchup. The af for example still sucks even tho they made us years to wait for phase detection. Sad truth. I’ve shot with all as well that’s irrelevant. Have Sony fx3 and lumix s5. Of course I’m not going to buy it. I’ll prefer something like fx30 apsc with the same price than this. Come on man. The old S5 camera is completely abandoned from software update.

Sony is only relying on the monopoly position of camera CMOS to keep it's growth. Panasonic can only access the old and slow IMX410 released in 2018. If Sony allows companies like Panasonic and Sigma to get newer full-frame stacked CMOS, even if not the latest, Sony's market position will be severely impacted.
