Luna X1 upgrade using Besst tool

A lot of confusion on using the Besst tool to upgrade the controller software on the Luna X1, so hopefully this walkthrough will help some of you. Its my first video ever, so forgive the poor quality. This upgrade was done on my Luna X1 with the Ludicrous and silent gear option with the upgraded 860 screen. The difference is night and day, now the bike is a genuine pleasure to ride. You will need to download the software files and also get the log in and password for the Besst controller. Files can be found on electricbike .com, password from either Lunacycle or someone on electricbike.com.

Is there another process with just connecting the phone to the bike. What I really want is to program the controller to have full (level 9) power on the throttle so that it will come on full no matter what assist level I am in. The throttle is useless to me only coming on with the assist level I am in.

Thank you so much for the video. What an amazing hassle to update the programming on my Luna X-1. I followed all of your instructions, downloading the file, getting the password, updating the file. All worked perfectly. UNTIL, I plugged everything back in, and I can't get my display to turn on. Therefore, I obviously can't ride my bike. I repeated the process a second time, and still the display won't turn on. Any recommendations?

With this tool, can you create a more gentle "roll-in" and "roll-out" power from the PAS? It's not very smooth at all stock.

People are apparently having issues with the 860 display while using BESST tool....Luna is now saying not to connect the display to the BESST when swapping the firmware, this makes sense because the display doesn't really do anything but perform display (and probably interferes with the Besst)

I have the smaller stock display. I had to connect it to use the firmware update. It would not work without connecting it so I think those instructions may deal with a upgraded 860 display.

@@HermanBustamanteJr I've actually swapped firmware on 3 separate occasions within 2 months, 2 of the occasions were with the "original display" connected and the most recent was NOT CONNECTED to the "original display" (no issues at all). I was able to swap around between the 3 firmware releases provided by Luna in my Besst order. The ideal Besst App to use is the 1.2.23 version (make sure to have GOOD Internet connectivity while running the App), it's available at the electricbike forum, look for Sebz posting. Stay away from connecting with 860 display, it's not made by Bafang. People have apparently fried their controllers with both displays....I think there's more to it and they just don't know WTF they're doing, probably pulling plugs apart before the firmware has finished swapping properly.

@@hoptard Thanks for that update dude. I just spent the last two hours trying to get this to work. I have the 860c display and I left it disconnected because of all the comments however I could not connect or read the current firmware. I was about to give up but I thought I would just go ahead and do exactly what this guy did in the video, leaving my 860 display on. It worked, was able to connect and read the current firmware (14.5); however, when I try to update to 14.6 it loads the bin file, but then when it prompts me to unplug the controller and plug back in, it just doesn’t do anything or continue (this video shows it updating the firmware and beeping twice). This was all done with the 1.2.18 version of the software because that’s what the guy did in the video. I hesitated using 1.2.23 just because of the 860 display issues. When the 860 display is not connected, BESST won’t even connect the bike to the computer. Even though I am a web/mobile app developer (i.e. pretty savvy with computers), I still feel I’m doing something wrong. With the 860 display disconnected, how many wires should be connected to the BESST tool? I just had the one triangular green wire connected to the line going into the frame (I figured that was the one going to the controller). I even tried taking the round green connector and plugging that into the power on/off switch on the bike. Still no luck. Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you. 😎
