1. The eight athletes turned back as the youngest athlete had stumbled and fell on his knees ... All his years of hardwork , dream and dedication had gone in vain but the other eight atheletes felt bad for him. So by showing emphaty and humanity they went back to help their fallen friend... 2. This cannot br classified as normal behaviour as in today's world humans hqve grown lot more selfish , cruel and self centered. . today no human cares for one another and such act of humanity , emphaty and sacrifice is rare and worth praises.. 3. The quality showcased by atheletes is basic human values , humaity , emphaty and kindness and willingness to help even by sacrificing own hardwork. In a nutshell true humanity... 4. Act of Kindness is always repayed..... Coordination and unity are keys to success.... Spirit of humaityvalues lot more than competition ..... I am studying this poem for first time so just tried this .. might be wrong tho... Pls correct than just rather point out

3) Although,the major objective of the poet was to emphasize the value of "cooperation" and "collaboration" in the poem, through a careful reading of the poem we can find different qualities showcased by the eight athletes. They are : #"compassion" and "care" for fellow competitors | One by one they turned round and came back to help him And lifted the lad to his feet.| #"empathy"and"kindness" towards others, | The eight other athletes stopped in their tracks The ones who had trained for so long to compete| #"true sportsman spirit", |The all nine runners joined hands and continued The one hundred metres reduced to a walk| #"determination and ambition" |Many weeks and months in training All building up to the games. ............ 1) The eight other athletes turned back in order to help their fallen fellow-competitor back to his feet who had had a sharp fall soon after the race began.It was the feeling of compassion,care and empathy in their hearts for their fellow men which enabled them to "turn back" in spite of "moving ahead" in the race. 2)No. This scenario is indeed an unusual or "extraordinary" human behaviour. Today,is an era of unhealthy rat-race where every "normal" individual thrives to outrun the other in every sphere of life. Their main motto is "competition". But,in the poem,we see "cooperation" and "collaboration" in the act of the "differently abled" people. They knew the value of shattered dreams and pain in life's struggle.Thus, it is appropriate to say that normal human behaviour is an aspect associated with the "normal" people; but " unsusual" behaviour is a characteristic of the "disabled" which is worth praising.

The poet says that the words "Special Olympics" could not have been nearer the mark because of the special turn that the event took. All the athletes were special human beings who responded commendably to the cry of a fellow competitor. They did not lose their goodness even in a competitive situation. They also were true sportsmen because they finished the race by holding hands and walking to the finish line, thus setting a unique example.
