Diesel mechanic here, on those old mechanical diesels, the injectors are activated by fuel pressure from the injection pump, if there is air in the injector lines, the air can compress more than the fuel, which can mess up the timing and make them a pain to start, as if the distributor on a gas motor was way out of time. I'm about to pick up a gas one of these tomorrow, also for scrap metal price, hah, wish me luck

You should crack the line loose at the injectors and full throttle to bleed. There is not a lot of fuel that gets injected but takes time to get psi. So I would have bled the system before taking pump out. Hope you get it going.
@nicostenfors56904 жыл бұрын
Those old rotary style injection pumps are quite a pain sometimes. The shutoff mechanism usually sticks and a little smack with some pliers in the side of the pump will usually get an old tractor running.
@Jethrosgarage4 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear the old diesel come to life- don't know how far you are in to this but getting a manual will help a lot. Glad to hear you got it for next to scrap price. Weather it is a car or a back hoe as you well know when it does not run you can't find out if the other systems like drive or hydraulics function. Good luck!

That's awesome dude. If I had enough land to need one I'd do the same. I wanted a riding lawnmower when I had about a quarter acre to mow but house I bought had a small lot so don't need one anymore. Used to take me a couple of hours just to do the main side yard and the front now it takes me maybe a half hour. I barely have room to park the spare cars. Funny how you can eventually find stuff you can use cheap or free if you keep your eyes open. For me at least the property taxes are dirt cheap and I won't be killing myself trying to maintain everything as I get older. Have fun with the new toy. 👍

Nice backhoe it's a Case 530 CK with a 188 diesel
@montyholland33574 жыл бұрын
Ya with older machinery especially with hydraulics. Need to let warm up for a good ten minutes. Then circulate the hydraulics by moving them all to their maximum and minimum manuevering points. Even if you don't intend on using those parts or the legs. This makes sure to keep your hydraulics healthy and fully circulating, preventing build ups or plugging in the lines.
@montyholland33574 жыл бұрын
Not doing so is what is usually responsible for about 75% of repairs. The other is just wear and tear
@ogr77713 жыл бұрын
I use to operate in 1952 John Deere backhoe, and on that tractor when you wanted to use the backhoe you had to switch the hydraulic power from the bucket to the backhoe by pulling a lever, maybe that’s why he had no pressure to the backhoe
@michaellynskey71249 ай бұрын
Diesel injection pumps need to be in time to deliver the fuel to each particular cylinder as it reaches TDC, the rotary pump has balanced weights that throw out as the pump reaches its target for delivery fuel to each particular cylinder’s. 🇬🇧🇮🇪.

Boys and their toys! As a kid I ran a 530 Case. I think I remember that to be a 188cid diesel. They hate cold weather but other than that it was a reliable unit. Rhey must not have the hydraulics to the hoe valve even hooked up.

2708 hrs you say? Still a teenager. I've seen some 6700. I believe that style has the weird lock for the bucket(rear). You lift it till it almost gets to the up position then slam the stick forward and it jumps the arm to the lock. It's an old tractor but has great potential. 👍👍 Wish I can find one near me.

Drop the outriggers and lift the big wheels. Crank the motor in gear. Let it spin up then slam the clutch and brakes together. That should free up something.

Go to You Tube for some basic info on your backhoe. Idle you engine down. Let it warm up. Check you hydraulic fluid level...they work better when the filters are changed and the hydraulics pump can get oil to push and pull the rams.

All old backhoes smoke, usually worn injectors cause smoking. The rings might be a little stuck and the pump timing needs to be adjusted after fitting the pump.

Dude, you didn't set the motor at 8° below 10:49 TDC of number one. You may have a real bad time trying to get timing right ever again. Those old Case tractors are not forgiving when it comes to timing that injector pump.
@PaulHigginbothamSr4 жыл бұрын
Loony the woistes thing ya'll could have done was remove the fuel pump. Timing is very very critical for injection to each injector. Now if you had pulled off each injector line right where it goes into the engine and primed it by hand not ruining the starter way better. If you get this started I would literally be shocked. Youse should have brought a can of ether.

it's not a tractor its a backhoe there's removing the injection pump was a major mistake timing it isn't like timing as distributor. Ive more than 40 years working on diesel equipment. I don't fuck with injection pumps . you can destroy the entire motor with a runaway . you got lucky bite the bullet and and pay a expert to time it. and run the rack. 2000 hours is nothing there are 2080 hours in a work year.
