I guided out of one of these all summer in northern Ontario. Fantastic boat. We had ours paired with a 60hp yamaha. When the weather turned bad and the waves started bucking this thing was amazing!!!

I agree with everything you said about the ssv18. I've got an older ssv18 and it's been a great camping and fishing boat for me.

Hi Dan. Great videos on the SV-18. I have been fishing out of Lunds in Canadian fishing camps for the past 50 some odd years. I am finally looking into getting my own boat and think the SV-18 is perfect for me fishing all over MI in rivers, small lakes to occasionally hitting the big water in Lake MI or Huron. I will probably pair it with a 40hp command thrust Merc. I will likely spend most of my time in rivers that are full of obstructions at times. I am wondering whether it is best to add a jack plate or use a prop guard? Or is the command thrust heavy duty gear case enough? Wondering what you would do.

Thanks! I recommend getting the 60hp command thrust. I'm a big believer in always getting the max rated outboard. I do not have a jack plate or prop guard and have run in 1.25 feet of water on the wisconsin river with mine. The boat can go scary shallow and handle a lot bigger water than people might think. 2.5 seasons with the boat and I'm a firm believer it is the best boat for the money hands down, especially if you're doing the shore camping or the Canadian outpost thing. My most recent fishing video is a prime example of how it's literally a go anywhere do anything kind of rig and meant to do big boy stuff. You will NOT be disappointed!

Great boat review! Ladder is a must have. Do you remember what brand ladder it is? I'm gonna put one on mine.
@dansmidwestangling Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Mike! The brand is Garelick, but I'm not sure which model specifically I have. This one has the same heavy-duty mounting brackets, but I thought I remember mine having another section: amzn.to/3ED1vOy Hope this helps!

Do you know the length of the boat motor and trailer? With a folding tongue, would it fit in a 22 foot garage?
@dansmidwestangling Жыл бұрын
I'm about 25 feet with the motor secured on the transom saver and a solid trailer tongue.

Get the heated grip for tiller 140$ and upgraded that bow mount to I pilot for 300$ plus remote.

Should be ok an 35 Hp tiller for three pax?
@dansmidwestangling Жыл бұрын
I think a 35 would be fairly underpowered for this boat. The lowest I'd go personally would be a 50, but I'm a big believer in getting the biggest motor a boat is rated for.

This boat take the 60 easily, run around 32 mph on calm days
