A lot of old timers just refer to motocross bikes in general as race bikes. Most of the old motocross models would have something like “for closed course competition” stamped on vin/model plates, giving the impression that they were designed for racing

It's obvious that's a race bike! Works triple trees, quick change race pipe, no seat cuz fast guys don't sit. I put solid sheet metal on my radiators. Rocks are not problem now. Sweet buy!!!

Packing a silencer has 2 affects. To quiet the bike and also the can is part of the bikes tune. Can packed with insulation is effectively double the volume as far as engine can tell. Bike will have a great mid punch minus packing. In most cases a full packed can will let the motor get full revs.

The first bike I raced was an 84 xr500 , box stock in mx. Raced a 650 yamaha twin in vintage mx and cc. I've been beaten by folks on much worse. Just my two cents.

A Race bike is any bike setup for the purpose of making you go faster on the track. For some it's suspension, for others it's engine work, different strokes for different folks. At the end of the day, a stick bike can race but I wouldn't call it a "Race" bike until it's purpose built for it's intended rider and racing style.

I love ur videos and n love the fact that you get the 2stroke vibe ! I recently was able to get my old RACE BIKE back a 1990 CR 125 restored it and refreshed it so yea look out +50 class. People see a CR or KX or whatever n the first thing that comes to mind is RACE BIKE ! Maybe cuz that’s what they were designed for with the bigger suspension travel idk. When evaluating the accuracy of someone's description of something (dirt bike), considering the source of that description goes a long way in determining it's accuracy but for the $700 you have in to it you did extremely well on this deal, after you remove the dents from the pipe you can remove the heat marks with a car buffer and some heavy cut rubbing compound, use it on the whole pipe as long as it's not rusted it makes the pipe look new.

I used this stuff I got at the Harley Davidson dealer for one of my bikes exhaust that removes bluing. It’s called (Blue Job) I know odd name lol. It’s a white powder with a little applicator you wet then dap into the powder then work the exhaust with it and wow…. I took out some seriously bad blueing off pipes from 87 so it def works. Just fig I’d put it out there for others to know as-well

A race bike to me is a bike that was built by the manufacturer to race such as a yz250f, or crf450r. Just the same way a ktm 300 xc is an Enduro bike because it is built to be raced or ridden in the woods

Back in '96 I went to look at a Suzuki GS1100 custom near Riverside , and was informed by the 'owner' that it was his 'race bike' , I made my excuses and left - quickly. The state of his teeth should have been a clue. Loved the re-enactment of your sellers conversation , I mean , it ain't for street riding , so it must be for racing - what else you gonna do with it ? My 2 cents is that 50,60,80,125,250, or 500cc two strokes were race bikes back in the day. Modern bikes are 50, 250f or 450f.

Race bike has the big pipe. Trail bikes is the other bike from that gentleman’s perspectives. Like a regular car is a Chrysler reliant K and a Race car is a IROC Z28 with the fire bird on the hood.

it's a entry level race bike from the factory there was no spark arrestor so legally in many states you could only run these bikes on private property or a track which technically makes it an entry level race bike...

Easier way to instal the carb and air boot…. Simple put the carb into the subframe air boot do not tighten it down then slide it into the other carb adjusting to line up and bam 💥 it goes in and ur done

A race bike is determined by the manufacturers intended purpose for that model line. Did Honda intend for cr250s to be trailed slowly through the woods, or did they intend for them to be cross country Enduro bikes? Maybe adventure bikes? Or did they intend for that model line to race bar to bar with the fastest dirt bikes the other manufacturers could produce at the time? I'd say there's a difference in a race bike and a bike that was professionally raced.

I got a 2000 cr250r that i recently resto-modded and my throttle stuck 1/2 open when i was racing the 2-stroke national at glen helen this year. I routed the cable wrong and it got pinched between the cdi bracket and the right fork tube. HAD to happen during a race. 😮‍💨 Bet you could race it in the local mx vet class,(once the brakes are sorted) for $700, you DO have a "race bike."

I always enjoy hearing people's idea of a race bike too. IMO there is not more to a race bike than if it was ever raced. Although that could be a qualifying factor in even the least likely bike, there is actually less to it, in this instance, as any CR, KX, RM, YZ, etc, is designed, developed, marketed and sold as a motocross racer and intended for closed course use at a race track. Doesn't matter if if the bike is still sealed in it's original factory crate. Thus, any of the parts associated with such bikes could be called race parts. Even the grips, if that is the intended application. Hence, parts distributors and 'riding' apparel manufacturers often include iterations of the word "racing" right in their company names or slogans. It's sketchier when I here someone talk about the racing helmet, gloves or boots they just got. I mean, it's just riding gear, and the word racing adds absolutely nothing to the description. In fact, it might have actually been intended for just everyday recreational riding. Now when someone refers to a sport bike as a race bike, I understand what they are trying to convey. It's the same message that I hear when someone uses the hum-dinger of crotch rocket monikers "speed bike" (which at least to my ears does not imply closed course use). But my all-time favorite came directly from my dear old aunt Joyce, when she would try to steer me away from my "motorcross" aspirations by saying "Don't get a good for nothing mud bike. Mud bikes always break and stink of chemicals and they're loud and smokey and they are expensive. Mud bikes are very dangerous. You'll just get hurt. Everybody gets hurt riding mud bikes. Yeah, you don't want a mud bike." Reading between the lines, she wasn't entirely wrong. 🤘😎🍻

I'd hazard a guess and say there is probably some definition stating what constitutes a race bike provided by the government. possibly tucked in the legislation regarding registration or importation of vehicles.

I picked up a 94 cr250 for $1750. here in New Zealand that’s a deal they go for about 5k on the low end. Love the videos keep up the great work man. It would be really cool to see a yz490 vs that IT that ur friend has. keep in mind if u get a 85 onward yz490 with the 5 speed do a 3 gear start as all they did was add a lower 1st gear. 2nd on a 85 onward is the same as 1st on a 82-84

Don't know why you bash the 97, the 99 is not that much different.. you would need to have a 2001+ for it to be any "better".. either way these bikes are perfectly fine with the correct suspension tuning, steering dampers etc.. Definitely a good find, just the motor in good shape is worth at least double what you paid! Parts are super expensive for these bikes, but seems like you got the most expensive ones in your find!

@@2stroketyson79 Yes, but the 97 CR 125 was still a steel frame and a 6 speed. They didn't go to Aluminum on the 125 until 98 and then messed up by making the 125 a 5 speed. JMO
