We retired here 17 years ago and made friends with not just the people who lived here, but others from all over the world, from all walks of life, who had discovered this incredibly beautiful and cherished corner of the Maritimes. No malls, no box stores, nothing to detract from the lovely Victorian streetscape. No traffic jams, no air pollution.... and you can take a stroll any hour of the day or night and feel totally safe.

In Lunenburg this fall we found all the feel and love of an old Canadian settlement that cherishes its heritage but is able to fit the new within its context. My German side of family Fehder / Feder etc immigrated to Lunenburg and one of the founding families of Lunenburg I love my history. Johann Heinrich Fehder (5th GG Grandfather) Helena Elizabetha Schlagentweit my 5th great grandmother, The Rev Paulus Daniel Bryzelius, my 5th great grandfather He was minister at St Johns Anglican Church Lunenburg and is buried underneath it. LOVE LUNENBURG So much of my family history STARTS THEIR. My Mothers side is WEIL, Wile again from Germany and coming to Nova Scotia, Lunenburg and moving all over. Lunenburg is steeped in history a MUST visit if your in Nova Scotia.

Problem with the area will never change , It's a cycle , young people graduate leave for the big city and leave old people behind who are on fixed income , Lunenburg's sole attraction is it's ship, Bleu Nose , which is never there ...

Sounds like you need to make another visit. There are positive things happening in Lunenburg, though it does face the hurdles that other rural areas in Canada face. There are younger families and middle age professionals moving to Lunenburg and places like Lunenburg, embracing the lifestyle it offers.
