samuel anatharaj....you are right...the pressure in chest wall will be negative and pressure in lungs in positive while both combined will be at zero.

explained brilliantly so many things but the hysteresis part was left with some important things. During Inspirtation, the compliance is low as there is surface tension to overcome which isnt the case during expiration.

One question...... U said the complaince of lung is increased in emphysema so that means lung can hold more air!!!.... Yaha confuse hogaya as emphysema is obstruction disease to kaise??

I strongly blv that your balloon example was wrong here, compliance is inverse to elasticity bcz elastic thing would tend to recoil,compliance is when something accomodate a volume but have the tedency to recoil back to its shape. Rest was awesome

answer in question: residual volume means there's some sir so how pressure can be negative but in the chest wall, there is some type of vaccum
