LUPANG HINIRANG - Arrival honours for the late Diosdado Macapagal (excerpts)

The mortal remains of the former President of the Philippines Diosdado Macapagal received full military honours from the Presidential Security Group upon arrival at Malacañang days after the death of the late president on April 21, 1997. Here, the old presidential salute in the form of 4 ruffles and flourished and the Philippine National Anthem, "Lupang Hinirang", was played in his honour, an honour reserved for a deceased president.
It was done in the presence of the widowed First Lady Dra. Eva Macaraeg-Macapagal, then-Senator Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (later President and now Congresswoman), her husband Atty. Mike T. Arroyo, and her half-sister then-Pampanga Vice-Governor Cielo Macapagal-Salgado. Representing then-President Fidel V. Ramos was Foreign Affairs Secretary Domingo Siazon.
