Lupe makes a good point saying, well prove it then by testing your abilities in an organized competition. Here's where lupe is wrong: 1) eow is where rappers who want want to be where lupe and royce are in their careers showcase their abilities so they are clearly not the best which is why 2) osiris diss track for royce is garbage and 3) it fails to recognize that becoming a mainstream rapper in the likes of a black thought, lupe etc is actually a component of being a top emcee. I love both of these guys for what they bring to Rap, and Lupe is my favorite rapper and I would argue the best lyricist in Rap dead or alive right now. But he is fucking wrong about that eodub bullshit. What he’s arguing for is elitist rhetoric. Talking about only the best can rate the best. Fucking wrong bro. The best in any context, even in that setting, were rated the best by a crowd of people; majority of whom were not in the highest caliber of skill of people they were scoring. The reason why people like Kendrick, Cole, and Drake are considered the best is because the crowd that puts them in that conversation does the same thing the eodub crowd does to a bigger degree. The big difference between those two contexts is that the Kendrick/cole/drake rappers put their efforts towards reaching those masses and allowing that body of constituents to decide. Lupe is arguing that the body of constituents that decide the best in eodub is more valuable. THAT IS ELITIST!!! The same way I don’t think the minority should decide for the majority in any setting, this eodub bullshit means fucking nothing in any setting, especially in the setting of rap, a genre that has international reach. People like Lupe nor the people that make up eodub do not dictate who is the fucking best. That is decided by the majority of people who are considered a part of the circle that people like Kendrick/Cole/Drake and Royce speak about inhabiting. If nobody knows what the fuck eodub is and the organization has no effect on the larger culture of rap, it doesn’t mean shit! Disappointing to know I’m hearing this from the mouth of a rapper I’ve grown love and appreciate lyrically. Lupe to me is the best lyricist in rap and hip hop period. Even better than who he thinks takes that crown in regards to Aesop rock. But hearing him take this stance diminishes his logic to me. Elitist rhetoric is toxic to culture and attempts to put the power in the hands of a few rather than in the hands of many. Royce may not have his argument fully fleshed out but I think if he had help he’s find he is in the space of rappers like Kendrick/Cole/Drake that leave the talking of “best” up to the public

Enough said. 2nd, you want individual rappers to have primary effect on culture, not organizations. You’re throwing the baby out with the bath water. P.S. @@Alief.Prophet lupe’s argument is that in order to be considered the best rapper you have to be judged by some small panel of experts. Lyricism bc it goes beyond music. you can showcase lyricism in a freestyle, a written battle, a poem or story. Thats why lyricism is more important to hip hop. It's extends beyond what other music genres can do, to have a musical audience listening to your every word without music playing is a whole different dimension. It's a marriage, it's the literary world invading the musical world. And the Goat title lupe explained it without knowing he explained it. Anyone who gets that title, it's because there was one day where they did something where we said they were better than everyone else. For example: when Royce was outrapping Em on 50% of Bad Meets Evil, when Lupe dropped Mural.

This was all friendly banter still at this point. Things went sour on the live with Young Guru, Murda Mooke and Loaded Lux. They were basically baited that whole live with the talks so when Lupe got on all amped things went south. They weren't supposed to go at each other but Royce been had that arrogance that he can step to anyone or any organization and make everyone bow down.

Royce said here, this a reason to diss me, then he got dissed, called on his friends who looked at him to stand up to his own stuff then he crumbled, love him but naaaah, HILARIOUS

Seems like everything Royce says is condescending and confrontational. Like refuses to even give other people any credit or respect.. its ok to acknowledge other people achievements and skills.

okay after watching this FULL live i’m not as mad at Royce anymore because he was agreeing and giving flowers while also just stating that he will outrap anyone on a track. Lupe is clearly the better rapper by far but i see what Royce was trynna say lol.

Seeing this now after all the diss tracks that were made, makes me understand the situation better. Royce got a huge ass ego and they were throwing hella backhand compliments to each other. Royce hold this L my brother...righteously

Lupe is being ridiculous, nothing from EODUB trumps a classic hip hop record, critical acclaim from the community is what makes you great. A stamp from some organization does not predict greatness, otherwise every PhD would produce genius work but that's not the case.

Lupe talking hella greasy to Royce, damn. To me Lupe is better than Royce. Royce got lyrics and all but can't make great records like Lupe. Royce has no classics unless u a stan. But he will kill it at the radio stations don't get me wrong. Lupe killed him on the battle, can freestyle damn near as good as his writtens. Everything Lupe saying to Royce is how he really feels about him as a artist. "You good but only in your element, your studio, it takes forever to write songs and verses and u can't freestyle" is basically what he saying. Lupe one of the GOATS.

58:40 Lupe claims to not be afraid by no Rapper…. Look up “Lupe fiasco talks about rappers he fears” and says King Los is the only rapper he fears cuz of his mind! Maybe he said that a while back and this is more recent but I just wanted to call cap when possible due! Don’t believe me then go look up yourself!!!

Tech N9ne & Nas don't freestyle either, but they can annihilate anybody on a track.. I'd rather be good at songwriting & performing on stage, than good at rhyming off the head..
