Man wakes up after going through a life changing experience (war), begins to question life and its purpose. Starts putting the pieces together of all the fucked up things that people never question. Decides to go to the higher power, knowing that they will probably turn him away, which it did. Shows that race is not of importance, the man in charge cares about no one but himself. Man feels lost and hopeless.

"I'm going to drive you through the night, down the hills". One can know the true meaning of light only when one has experienced darkness. Man can only ascend if he is aware of what is below him. Hegel's master/slave dialectic proved best that no one is truly free when some men are masters and others slaves. Nash equilibrium showed that, in a world where everyone is out for their own self, everyone is screwed of their fair share.

@Chrindoflip | Ah, OK. You asked for 3 tracks in the past two years so I listed some, haha. I didn't know we were using FOTP as a gauge of some sort (bear in mind the FOTP version of Joaquin Phoenix is vastly different than the older version). And I think the jury should be out on judging FOTP against EOTS, which we've had much longer. Plus EOTS was a demonstration of flows and concepts atop EXTREMELY popular beats. The beat selection on FOTP was more-or-less obscure.
