Lupe stopped physically writing raps a few years back. It got to easy. It occasionally writes songs live without putt to paper. Takes an idea from a prompt and stretches it out live with verses and hook. It's why his hands are mad at him

Love this reaction. Its all a big play on turn of hand. When you turn your hand to someothing you try to do something new, some new skill. This is lupe just turning his hand to memorising lyrics instead of writing them down. So he's turned his back on his hands and they turn on him. A literal turn of hand to go with the metaphor.

In this case biting the hands that feed you is the same as lupe biting his tongue. His hands(writing ability) is what got him put on and popular(critical acclaim early on from ye, nas, jay and the whole rap world). He got so nice and probably bored with rapping that instead of taking the time to write raps and exercise his hands, he started freestyling instead. And by freestyling he ended up cutting off the very thing that helped put him on. Yakuza(japanese gang/mafia) have to cut off a piece of their finger to atone for their behavior when they do something that’s not allowed. I think the song is an example of his hands being mad that he didnt let them loose(handcuffs) in the battle against royce and the past few years in general.

Excellent reaction! New subscriber here. On top of the extremely intricate surface level interpretation of the conflict between Lupe and his hands I think there are dual meanings for each individual verse when you consider the specific hand signs he is choosing. In particular the third verse sounds like it could be for the record companies (or Atlantic specifically in his case). The second verse sounds like it could be for Royce. This could all be a reach but knowing Lupe almost anything is possible.
