There’s a special place in heaven for doctors like Dr. Jefferson who advocate for those whose conditions are ignored, misunderstood, or met with lack of compassion. But more than in heaven, we need to make a special place in earthbound modern medical practice, particularly the profit-driven Western-variety that is basically more structured around the needs of the physician rather. than the patient

You know what I love about you? You treat every patient as if their problem is the most normal thing in the world, like it's all fine, you see it every day. This means so much to people. I've got lupus sle and some the effects on the body are really embarrassing. It's a hidden illness in the way that it's not obvious to people so people make assumptions. But you take it all in your stride and you are gentle and considerate, gracious and professional. I think you are amazing.
I just breathed a huge sigh of relief. I was diagnosed with lupus at 16, almost a decade ago. And I've been living with it ever since, modifying my diet, taking my meds, praying it will go into remission etc. All the things we do to try and make ourselves better. But in the last year I started noticing my feet getting really dry, calloused, and getting feel painful cracks when they peeled. I had thought fleetingly it might be related but had no proof and so I changed my soap, and my socks (went with natural cotten) changed my shoes... nothing helped. I'm glad to know this is something that I'm not alone struggling with. I'll have to get some shade butter and try some of the other things I've read in this thread. Thank you all for sharing.
